Dont get hopes up about Tee as OC

Plus, if you hire someone to be your HC, you have to let him bring his own staff. This whole scenario does not make sense.

You are correct. That would be very odd for a head coach not to be able to hire his own staff. I thought Fulmer being hired at the AD was a good thing, but if he is trying to hire a puppet as an OC, then I am not so sure. You only have to look at his record at the end of his tenure to see how bad we were. He seems to be letting his personal feelings and pride come into play by not even interviewing qualified head coaches that may or may not be interested. I am just ready to get a coach in place and try to save some of our recruiting class. I am a Vol forever regardless of the hire

I would’ve hoped this is obvious but as many folks as I’ve seen on here and FB assembling their “dream team”, listing Tee as OC....why would he make a lateral move? It makes no sense. I’m with you OP

Imo; it could help Tee obtain a HC position by coming to Tn. and being OC with full authority as OC, and recruiting cord. He could come in here, and Tn. has no way to go but up on the offensive side. He could improve the offense, and he has already proven to be a great recruiter. His chances of HC opportunity would be greater here than at USC, with him not being able to run the offense. Some HC, never want to turn that over to an OC and USC coach may be one of them. Just my opinion, but I also agree the HC should be able to hire his own staff.

IMO Tee isn't coming to UT just to be OC. Why would he leave USC for that? He isn't leaving USC for anything other than a head coaching job.

WRONG! He will come for associate head coach of offense and 1.25 million dollars. The VFL's have talked with him about this.

Swain (who has talked to Tee) verified Tee would come as an OC if the situation was right. He mention things likes 1.1mil - OC with full control and title as associate/assistant head coach

another comment he made was that salary in California is not as much as you think due to the cost of living but in TN it's huge

I don't get all the hype for Tee. If he is the best that Tenn can get as an OC then they are in trouble. If he had never played at UT everybody would be bashing him.

Tee's out there having fun in that warm southern california sun, far removed from the SEC pressure cooker.

I bet georgia hates that an Alabama Guy is running their program now.

Except that Alabama guy is a georgia alum lol. I’m ok with Pruitt as the coach, but you’re moscharacterizing things here. Pruitt actually went to Bama

I would almost be willing to bet that Pruitt will be the HC and after he's done giving the rah rah speech, the next introduction will be Tee as the OC.

I look at Tee and see that USC averaged 34 points a game before he took the OC role, and averaged 34 points a game in his 2 years as OC.

So I'm not seeing that he's doing any great and ground breaking coaching there. Hiring a defensive guy, he needs someone who is an offensive guru. A reverse Spurrier situation where he just let Bob Stoops handle everything on defense and Stoops was superior at it.

I'd talk to Tony Elliot from Clemson and hope he'd see this as a launching point to a HC career where he isn't a co-OC. If he wants to stay at Clemson, talk to Jeff Scott, their other co-OC and make him the same deal. The Morris system has run roughshod over the Bama defense the last two times they've played.

Stupid to think Tee would leave USC for this dumpster fire and a lateral move.

He's already said he would. He said he would be open for various positions here. So yes it's very possible and hes not well liked out West by USC fans.

He would not be a HC in waiting if another coordinator is the HC. I believe he would have been open to this with someone like Miles, who was not going to coach for a long time.

If someone like Pruitt works out - Tee would have to go elsewhere to be a HC.

Then there is this from another article in October of this year.

" USC has as much talent as any team in the country. It has not shown over the first month of the season, and that falls on Clay Helton. The offense is disorganized, the play-calling could be better and Darnold has taking a step back. No play better illustrates the Trojans’ problems than Darnold running a quarterback sneak on 1st-and-10 because the Trojans didn’t realize they had picked up a first down on the previous play.

USC is lucky to be sitting at 4-1 right now. But even with the loss to Washington State, its playoff hopes are very much alive. That won’t be the case if Helton doesn’t tighten things up soon."

My gut tells me that some at USC would be glad to see Tee Martin leave.

Possibly more money. Gets to coach at Alma Mater. If anyone could talk him into it, it's his old coach who he highly respects.

I'm sure he would want a HC opportunity somewhere. May be he isn't getting the offers he wants right now.

I agree. USC has a really good team next year which would put him in position for a headcoach job within 2 years. Tennessee is potential train wreck in next 2 years. Tee Martin will stay at USC.
