Don't care where the "expert analysts" rank us........

That makes sense but VolsGrad1989 seems confident UT went into this season with only 63 scholarship players...which doesn't make a lot of sense.

If that's the case then UT should be able to sign 40 players.

I think Chattanooga had 63. I don't believe the 63 number for the season... I think smokeyz1 has it figured out (I appreciate your posts about the numbers).

This is a very impressive class. Two contrasting QB's, one of which will play another position as well. Size and speed at the LB position. 2-3 burners out wide. On tape, what looks to be aggressive, athletic offensive linemen, and IMO the best DL haul in several years. Couple of DB's that could have signed with anyone. Maybe a true "stud" running back is all that's missing.
They’re #1 in our hearts

Does anyone know how recruiting class rankings have actually played out-over 4 seasons? Are they a good judge of the talent, or are they, as many have suggested, just something 247 and others put out, in order to sell ad space? I'm sure someone can point out a player here and there that developed far better than his HS ranking, or just the opposite, I'd be far more interested in the entire class rankings, year after year, and how it has played out in Team Rankings, championships etc.

Agree, I'm telling you Pruitt will get it done at high level here. I'm not worried about uga right now ....smh at wasted talent

This class feels like it is building to something doesn’t it? Butch would always get starry eyed and would take kids just to boost the class ratings. It worked, at least on signing day but left huge holes in our roster. I truly feel Pruitt looks what are team needs and could care less about recruiting rankings. It is kind of like Belichick. Not my favorite coach but he always drafts the guys he needs, not the flashy guys. That is why he wins.

I read an article a while back, about Bama's recruiting method. The evaluate many different aspects of a recruit, not just their measurables. I think Pruitt is bringing that method to us. It is already paying off by getting us players with a different mindset. That is probably the biggest difference.

Recruiting class rankings are correlated with success on the field, but it's also a bit of a "chicken and the egg" problem.

Sure, teams with higher class rankings tend to do better, but that's because the recruiting services tend to give players higher ratings who are courted by top-tier programs (e.g. Clemson, Bama, Ohio State, etc). Ultimately, the recruiting services are mostly just copy-cats and it's not their expertise that's "correct" so much as the scouting and evaluation by the top programs.

Tee Hodge reminds me of Travis Henry.I think we'll be all right.Good solid class.

6'2" 230 lbs. runs 40 in 4.47. 3 star but don't understand why with that size and speed, sounds like a good power rb. nephew of Randall Cobb Green bay packers, wr I think wr, not sure of position.

Orange-colored glasses maybe, but IMO, we've never had more underrated players in a class in recent memory. So many of our 3-stars feel like they should be ranked much higher (Hodge, Spraggins, Slaughter, Holiday). Think Morven Joseph was also a 3-star on 247 until very recently, but now he's upgraded to a low 4-star. Also wasn't Hyatt a 3-star for a long time (which seems completely insane)?

Like I said ... could be orange-colored glasses on my part, but just feels like a much higher percentage of our top recruits are underrated by the services this year.
I believe you our right. We just added 3 guys Callaway Holiday Hyatt all three our one ballers on football field and two extremely fast and quick. They will cause d coordinators to stress out each week.

When you are CLUELESS. You probably shouldn't shout off the mouth. Pruitt himself said during the season UT had 60 something players. I am not sure the number was 63. But, I know it was less than 70. Maybe that is why you have 22,000 posts. You just post and don't read **** to educate yourself on the system, team, etc...!!! No team has been able to recruit more than 30 players since 2014, even when players added are gray shirts, blue shirts, back counts, etc...

Good follow up Oline class. You knew you weren’t going to get the 5 stars two years in a row, but they got some blue collar guys that will have some time to develop.

This class is OUTSTANDING at filling the holes in our roster. Last years class was so good at filling holes that we won 6 out of our last 7 games. With only 63 kids. That means the teams we played had 22 more kids than us. ...1 for EVERY position on both sides of the ball...and we STILL beat them.

Amazing job by CJP. Great strategy and execution. This guy can flat out recruit.
good data thanks... #9 class on volquest? hopefully negaPruitt’s will pipe down for a while.

I believe that Coach Pruitt said that we had 63 “available” scholarship athletes, i.e. players who could, at that specific point in time, take the field. That takes attrition, medical retirements, transfers and injuries into consideration.

Thanks... like I said, I am an engineer but I can't figure out scholarships.

You must have not done much research on the team during your 22,000 posts!!! 63 was the roster number for 2019.

Not really. At one point Pruitt made a comment that they had only 63 scholarship players available. While true at the time, it was a bit of coach speak. It did not account for injured or otherwise unavailable scholarship players and those sort of things happen to all teams

Butch was never around championship environments to learn how players in those winning programs evaluated talent
He inherited two strong programs (within each conference), but paid no attention to how to sustain that level. As a result, when he came to Tennessee he evaluated talent by stars alone.

Those strong programs didn’t have the recruiting atmosphere or environment where evaluations and development mattered. Big East and MAC recruiting is all about rankings and stars

Butch cared about what Rivals and 247 said... Pruitt doesn't. Pruitt may still fail... but he's doing his own evals.
Pruitt doing his evals and then developing them will be the test, Butch didn't stand a chance with his staff and experience, didn't know what an SEC player was supposed to look like or how to make him better, at least CJP has that going for him.

One service has him listed at 216 which I believe is likely close to his actual weight.
