The defense did what they could. They were on the field way too long early in the game. They still did their job and held Florida to field goals. It was the offense job to get us back in the game. We need to remember that this team is comprised of mostly sophmores, and are still learning. We have some tough games left, with Ga., LSU and SC., at home. this year is far from over. Some of you got your hopes up, and this loss was a big let down. not for me, we are still a young, good and talented team, and i am proud of this team and i m not giving up and neither should you. I AM PROUD TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL. GBO

Please. First drive was textbook beatdown and the scoring play was the most predictable in the history of football.

yeah they held florida to 33 points they did their job.

Considering the various mishaps we had including the bad snaps from center it could easily have been 83 points. But the defense held things down. We may not be LSU level on defense yet but they did pretty good considering the amount of time spent on the field.

At the worst we did what vegas expected us to do today. Like CDD says, we have a long way to go. Please do not give up on this team. I'm not going to make excuses we got beat, plain and simple. I really do think this program is headed is headed in the right direction. GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!! FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!

How about the rest of the game. We gave them the ball 3 other times on our half of the field in the first half andf held them to field goals. CJW held his own with weis

Weis just called an idiotic game. Abandoning the run right and screens during the middle was stupid. They had us hammered had he kept on, but he was trying to prove that he has an offense other than the two scatbacks, about which he is dead wrong.

The tackling when he went back to pounding was an utter embarrassment. I thought Jacques was a beast. Maggitt was solid. The rest was atrocious.

Offense averaged 0.4 yards per carry. Tennessee can't beat any good teams with that kind of production because it puts our young defense on the field too long. Defense played as well as they could considering how impotent our running game is. Any semblance of a running "attack" would have made this a very close game right up until the end.

Maggitt still missed some tackles.

By the way, we cannot get any pressure on the QB. AT ALL.

It was a game to the end and we aren't going to be running the ball any time soon. The dual homerun threats was our offense. Our line isn't going to be manhandling anyone. Left side is very suspect. I'd move AR and Jackson out there if I intended to run the ball.

Yeah they did their job with all the missed tackles too.

i try and stay positive about the vols as much as possible.i do not post that often just usually soak in all that everyone has to say.for several years now,i have watched as we have forgotten how to tackle.it's becoming very agravating, frustrating and causing my blood pressure rise to see all the missed tackles, arm tackles and trying to tackle high.fundamentals, put a hat on somebody and wrap up.on a gifferent note, would be nice if those 300 + ol could run block just a little.

Can't blame the defense because they did their job... Yet they did let the kick field goals.. I don't consider that good.. They need to create more turnovers, fumbles, int's, etc... They need to learn how to wrap up.. They are among the best players in the nation playing football in college and they can't tackle.. They needed to secure the edges, (everyone in the nation knew they needed too and they didnt..) Idk what it is, but this defense needs to get physical and start flying to the ball and making plays to get our offense out there and let them score the points.. Dissapointed in our deffense.

Not to mention, 83 of those came on a cheap busted play.

Yep. Florida averaged 3.7 on the ground. That's not exactly dominant. We had a bad first drive, a busted play, and 13 points given up on short fields.

That's 27 of the 33 right there. The defense had its off moments, but it didn't get dominated consistently.

And most of our problems lie in the realm of playing the damn game. With more experience, it should be a solid group.

Agree. The linebackers were definitely the weak point today. No surprise, that's the spot where we had two freshmen starting. The D-line actually closed up some running lanes and didn't allow much push at all. But Florida picked on the linebackers for the whole first drive, and it was AJ Johnson's failure that led to the 83 yard TD. Florida scored 20 points on sustained drives. At least 14 were attributable to bad LB play.

The linebackers did struggle, but don't forget about AJ Johnson's theft of the ball in the second half. A heads-up play from a guy with that little experience.

Absolute truth. I'm not saying they were bad on the whole, just that youth there was responsible for 75% of our defensive failures. At least. But Johnson and Maggitt are extremely talented, and there's no reason to think we'll go anywhere but up.
