Don't ask, Don't tell repealed

Break one sin, you break them all. Correct?

The thing is this, I have never served in the military. Not serving is my greatest regret, in fact my only regret, in life. I grew up with an Airborne Ranger as a grandfather who was single handedly the greatest man I've ever known. He always said that the only qualifications he wanted in a fellow soldier was that when the **** hit the fan, they answer the call and keep themselves and others alive. What they put their **** into was immaterial.

Had I been lucky enough to serve, that would have been my exact stance.

that's fine and his opinion, but he only knows it from a perspective of not serving or training with openly gay soliers. plus that was a totally different time back then. our military did not have the PC that we do now.

Apparently they locked the plant down and no one was allowed to quit during the war. Most of them died early, like him, so I never really knew him.

I was lucky enough to know both my grandfathers, the younger just passed at 83, he enlisted in the Navy at 17, was on the Vicksburg for the Iwo and Okinawa campaigns.

Sad, that the youngest are 83 years old.

So homosexuals didn't exist then?

did we ever establish what joe and gs consider "openly gay"?

someone like Perez Hilton will never serve, he simply doesn't have the mental toughness to survive BASIC Training let alone serve in actual combat.

Being gay has absolutely ZERO affect on a person's ability to fight and die for his or her country. The military has taken very active policy initiatives against sexual harassment. I'll admit thinking that some of the standards were BS because of the extremely light burden of proof required of an accuser, but they do work. I got in trouble for talking to a female soldier while leaning out a 2nd story barracks window.

The only people who are going to have to worry about "openly gay" people serving are the openly gay people themselves. The military is nothing if not fueled by testosterone and there are going to be a few, provincial hicks who will attempt to take matters into their own hands. Those idiots should be dealt with harshly.
