Ummm.... no.

It is a clear message that you come to UT to work and win championships. If you aren't coachable or won't put in the effort then you won't make it.

Setting clear expectations in advance never scares the kind of people you want.

It's like when you have a bunch of good junior and senior players as starters, but your next line of players are freshman who will be good in a few years but aren't quite ready for college play just yet...

so like if your starters get hurt, you dont really have the backups who are ready to play yet....it's really hard to explain....maybe like no real depth b/c most of the players in line are really young...

If this is really the case then it won't hurt UT. It is something that the best programs deal with all the time as they lose Juniors to the NFL early.

Question?
With all of these players leaving doesn't this play a roll in the new academic standards? I thought I read something a couple of year ago that if you have players leave early for the pros of get kicked off it hurts your overall score.
If so we could be getting ourselves into trouble!

As long as they leave in good academic standing, it doesn't matter. Morley will be one to count against us. Also, as far as Langley goes, it wasn't discipline that got him.

I'm sure this is not any different than what Pete Carrol or the coach of any successful program expects of his players. Too many of these players are used to a much more lackadaisical approach by the former staff. Some of them will not be able or are not willing to make the needed changes to be successful. They need to be gone as quickly as possible so that the ones that are here are all on the same page.

Frees up another scholarship for a kid who wants to work and win.

You need to know the these kid's heart and desire in the spring. I would want to know who I can depend on when we get into war in the fall.

except those guys usually have a great string of sophmores and freshman behind them for the next season.

Mine was, i think we were talking about weeding out a bunch of players from this team...essentially leaving a case where all your backups are the new guys (still most likely frosh.) brought in for kiffin's system

I love Kiffin's quote on this...“He’s not with us,” Kiffin said. “He’s not part of our program anymore. Same old story.” HAHAHA!! Sounds like it is kind of like boot camp out there and some of these guys can't cut it.

Ok, let me clear it up a bit b/c i think i phrased it wrong.


My worry was that eventually - you make so many cuts - even the good players who normally don't make mistakes (slip up maybe once) - or normally don't do stupid things - might get too get too worried to come here, since well they could be thrown out for doing anything wrong, i guess

And I'm glad w/ riff-raff being thrown out, of course I also realize too that college students are just kids and will make some mistakes - that's why there's stuff like tutors or even academic probation instead of just suspension and explusion.

I don't think these guys are getting kicked off the team for missing one class or anything. It seems a tad bit more involved.

CLK just isn't putting up with all the crap that took away UT's swagger. The bunch we have on the field next fall will all be football players. We won't have anyone hanging around the team who hasn't proven himself worthy.

Just an FYI on Langley everyone....

The man didn't leave because of discipline issues or bad grades. He left because he was having an identity crisis after his mom died. More than likely most of us normal people would as well if our mom died. I wish him the best.

Seriously, I understand the concern over players leaving/getting dismissed. I have moments where I feel that way too. Then I remember seeing our players laughing and cutting up on the side lines while we were getting our butts handed to us by South Carolina last year and suddenly I don't feel so bad about it anymore!

Keep it up coach K! Torch the barn and kill the rats!!

I was just about to post and ask you if that was the reason. I felt like that was likely. Some people on here dont understand that sometimes people lose their passion to play a sport.
