Don’t want to compete with Michigan and Texas

What makes you think guys are not going to transfer in mass if Pruitt is fired tom? I'm guessing Henry T would go straight to Alabama with him and Bailey straight to FL. I think as many as 15-20 would bail, maybe more.

Let me ask that question in reverse.... how many players would bail if Pruitt wasn't fired but tennessee started out with a losing streak in 2021 and Pruitt was a dead man walking? Because that's a far more likely scenario.

If Tennessee names the new coach the same day they fire Pruitt and that new coach is a big splash hire for crap loads of money then I think we will be just fine in recruiting, may even flip some recruits to our side.

The key is we have to have a plan in place and execute it in a timely manner and not do the typical Tennessee thing and go door to door asking who wants to be our head coach.

It's also possible that Covid really did disrupt this year's development and that under normal circumstances Pruitt can produce an 8+ win season next year with this roster. A new coach will not have this roster so hard to say what next season would look like good or bad.
Last year was a normal circumstance, he lost to Geo St. , one of several games that should of been a W under his watch but we’re an L.
Despite the win streak I can’t think of a single game we’ve won that we shouldn’t have.
Like LSU beating UF. It hasn’t happened.
And a new coach won’t have this roster , it may be better or worse. With the transfer rules now it could be better.

Except that the NCAA has all but guaranteed that they are going to pass the one time immediately eligibility rule so the dynamics have changed.

It could be beneficial to schools like Tennessee because we maybe able to pick up a few disgruntled blue chips from Bama, Georgia, Clemson, etc when they realize they will be practice squad and special team players - kids can transfer out and have immediate eligibility to play four years (as long as they didn’t play in more than 4 games).

But it also means that schools who fire coaches may lose some kids as part of the process. We lost Bryce Brown after Kiffin left and Cade Mayes decommitted when we fired Butch but the numbers are usually small. With the new rule I think we’ll see more kids transferring out during coaching changes - especially guys like T’Oo, Gray, etc who are probably gonna be drafted but have to play one more year in college. T’Oo would be Great fit at Bama and Gray is perfect for the Clemson O...
Yeah that’s a good point; didn’t think of that.

Our basketball coach says hello. We've not had a coach worthy of top pay and the ones we have offered in the past have turned us down. We are not a B grade destination with a $100 million budget.
When is the last time Tennessee has said we will go out and offer top 3 in the conference to a head coach to come here in football? They offer B- money and try to sell coaches on other stuff to come here.

It‘s gonna change the dynamics of rosters for sure...I see more kids transferring out if they aren’t getting the playing they think they deserve but don’t see the starters transferring out unless there is a coaching change. The head coach might fire his OL coach and have two starters decide to follow...strange new dynamics indeed

Whoever hires Jamey Chadwell and the Coastal Carolina staff is the team to be worried about! I was ecstatic when I heard Vandy hired the Derek Mason 2.0 guy from Notre Dame! I was afraid they were going after him and that would have been disastrous for us!

I can't believe some of you believe we would EVER make a splash hire. Please tell me when we've ever done that. Now add in the FACT that the University lost alot of money this year. We would be hiring rejects from the Dollar store. Man if I had an imagination like some on here I might have never gotten married since all of the supermodels would be at my house on a nightly basis. When is the last time we even interviewed someone anyone would consider a "splash hire"? If it happens and I for one hope it doesn't this year then I don't want to here a word when we hire some FCS coordinator. Bitchin' for the sake of bitchin' is just stupid, it may not do much harm but it damn sure does no good. It can be worse, much worse, our team has made strides in becoming a more SEC worthy team, one wrong hire ESPECIALLY with a one time transfer rule could mean in a year we are Vandy. Bottom line the roster is improving and it took 3 years to get to this point, without knowing who we would hire means we could be right back where we were regarding roster makeup. You guys have to know this is possible, right?

This is valid, and, for sure is in Fulmer consideration for a change, and if mass exodus occurs, we're back at Butch talent levels looking at another hopeful 3 year build. May not be a popular take, but I think w/ the money situation and how tough it is to judge the impact of covid (each team had to deal w/ it, but it truly affected all teams differently). With promising QB play this week (and not a blow out) and decent showing in possible bowl game, it will be easier for Pruitt to hang on for Y4.

You have no idea who or how much was offered to coaches during past searches.

I don't see how Michigan is keeping Harbaug after this year. He only has one year left on his contract, they'll probably just get rid of him.

If we hang on to JP for a year too long, we could be in a coaching search against Michigan and Texas. I think as we stand right now it’d be most beneficial to part ways now and get the best coach available.

If we were ever going to take a shot at being one of the very best programs in the country, this is the offseason to do it and offer Urban whatever he wants. If not, he'll sit in the studio for another year and then have his choice of USC, Texas and Michigan next offseason. I don't know if he'd take the job (It's doubtful) but it's AD-malpractice to not offer. Especially after hearing all the positive comments he's made in the past about UT and how good of a job it is.

I'd be fine with several of the coaches mentioned on this board but Urban is the best available by a wide margin.

Harbaugh will be Mich coach for as long as they are pulling in serious revenue..........5 more years.

I don't think it's the same, Pruitt has built the roster up, our roster in '17 was not very good at all. I think we can be successful next season with Pruitt and this roster.

Pruitt reminds me of Butch. Can recruit but can't develop talent, coach or make half time adjustments.

My question is what makes Texas and Michigan so damn special other than their arrogant ass alums? What have they ever done that we haven’t in the last 50 or 60 years plus? We’ve won a title more recently than Michigan and it took a freak game and freak performance by Vince Young to win a game they would’ve lost 9 times if they played 9 more times For their title. You would think they are both college football royalty by the way they are treated in the media, but both play second fiddle to Ohio State and OU.

Do you have over $15 million dollar to do this????? The Vol program along with other schools are in deep financial shape because of the virus and drastically reduced ticket sales. UT is still paying Butch Jones too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Butch took an HC job, and he's paid off as of February anyway, and that money was already in escrow.
