We don’t need the next Neyland. If we hire someone who takes us bowling each year, that would be a start. 2001-2004 was the last time we went bowling 4 years in a row. We just need to be competitive and beat teams we can continue to beat on he recruiting trail.if we plateau, reevaluate that later on.

Butch wanted a pat on the back because he got us a couple of 8-4 seasons. So let that be the expectation, with an occasional 9 or even 10 win season. But I don’t want perfect to stand in the way of better. And there are a lot of better coaches out there. Don’t do the inevitable tomorrow...do it today.

Butch may have status as a bricklayer, but not as a coach.

You are definitely right given our current trends with the admin and AD on hires and that’s cheap. Regardless, I’m eager to see Phil with an actual search that isn’t a dumpster fire from the onset under him. He walked into a crap sandwich and made best of it.

The second thing I would like to see that is trend breaking is us literally making money no object.

You have to become an 8-4 and every-year bowl program before thinking about the next step.

That’s my point. We aren’t going to win the East in the next few years. But we can become “relevant” more than we are now.

There is no path to "relevancy" that includes guaranteed losses to Florida/Georgia/Alabama every season. Nor is their an indication that we are on a path to remedying that, when we are losing to Kentucky and Arkansas as well.

Let me get this straight you want 8-4 to be the standard? Are you kidding me on shooting for mediocre? You have to shoot for perfection and hold yourself to a higher standard or you get the culture that we have now that playing halfway is ok. Do you hold your kids or coworkers to that standard too just come in and do a little or do you expect them to do the best they can? Results matter and the team we have the field are not performing to their capabilities and the head coach seems like she doesn't have the answer.

I don’t disagree. But we aren’t competitive vs good teams, lost to Ga st, and now throttled by Kentucky and Arky. I wasn’t a Butch guy, and there’s a reason he’s not coaching anywhere. But aside from those two years, we are a 5 to 7 win per year program.

I see what you're saying, and while I agree in reality I just wanna throw out another option. I actually think with all this talent (especially if we close up this recruiting class and get Lewis back in and hold on to Salter) and we get a homerun hire who can bring in a grade A+ staff who can develop these guys that we can be competitive immediately. Maybe not SEC East, but at least 8-9 wins right off the bat with the right schemes, right developement, and for me just getting the guys passionate and fired up again. Even the sideline reporter at the Florida game remarked about how underwhelming our guys attitudes were Sat.............just my 2 cents, and I know "we cant afford it" and "fulmer hates UT", and "we are a dumpster fire", etc etc guys

Walked into a crao sandwich...agree
Made the best of it....disagree, vehemently disagree. If anything he made the worst he possibly could of it by hiring a guy with zero experience in the job.

This statement right HERE ☝️shows the sad state that this program has become. VERY SAD!

I agree 100%. Doesn't change the fact that Butch has been the best coach we have had since Fulmer.

Also, why do so many people say VERY SAD! or Sad! Now and days? I guess it's because of Trump?

Never understood people being puppets but so many are.

But he didn't stay here. Overall, Butch had a better winning record and got us to a higher peak than Kiffin did. This, Butch was a better coach for us.

In 2009, Kiffin's year, the SEC had the top 2 teams in college football (Bama & UF) and Kiffin's team played both extremely touch.

Butch coached in arguably the worst SEC East (2013-2016) since the divisions were created in 1992.

Who was the hire then? The only coach out there with head coaching experience that was lobbying for job was the guy who replaced Phil.

The thing that irks me the most is the extension of Pruitt, not the hire. Phil made the best of the situation he walked into.

Yes, but Kiffin finished 7-6 right?

Butch had two 9 win seasons.

I'm not saying Butch is great or that I want Butch back.

I'm just saying Butch has been the best coach we have had since Fulmer was fired in terms of results, wins, winning percentage, etc...
