Don’t understand letting these surgeons go

Maybe he prefers Dr. James Amdrews clinic since that's where a lot of Athlets in Alabama go to.

As long as the reason isn't "doctor shopping" (i.e. looking for doctors willing to be more permissive or less independent with injury/concussion protocols, or overlook or even provide performance enhancing drugs), then the decision is ok. From what people have posted about the proposed replacements, they seem like stand-up physicians, so this shouldn't be a concern. It is an odd move though.

You leave PEDs out of this

You know you're dealing with an actual medico type when they use the term orthopod. Truth be told orthopods are to surgery as Fords are to automobiles. It's fun to see what they do and how they do it. Lots of you hold that and let me put my foot on his chest and pull type stuff. They tend to be the most fun and down to Earth MDs IMO. Cardio and Neurosurgeons, Jesus Christ isn't good enough to carry their lunch boxes has been my experience, the Rolls Royces and Lamborghinis of surgery.

I tend to agree. Orthopods aren't wired as tight as Neurosurgeons. As a Physical Therapist, I've had extensive experience with both. Cardiologists on-the-other-hand, suffer from a " Christ Complex".

Not enough roids and deer antler spray prescribed!

At the best, this does not look good. I’m sure CJP had to get Fulmer’s buy in on this, but it still looks bad.

I’d like to know what his thinking was.

Why does it look bad? A tremendous amount of change has been made over the last 6+ months. Everyone is replaceable and the doctors are no different. Yes, they have been with the program a long time, but I really do not understand why everyone is so upset about the decision.

I know right? I mean I can see if they want to go all UT hospital and stuff but these guys are very good and some
Of the best in the US
I thought the article said both the two guys who left and the two who replaced them work at KOC. I wonder if they had some problems associated with some of the surgeries the past few years.

LMAO you know, before Internet, before social media I couldn't have told you who the offensive and defensive coordinators for UT were. I couldn't have told you the names of any of the position coaches. I couldn't have told you who the strength coach was. I wouldn't have a clue about our freshmen class until I saw their names in the program or maybe listed in the newspaper the day AFTER national signing day. And now...LOL oh Jesus help me, now we know the names of the freaking medical staff that Pruitt fires and hires! Living in the social media age as a college football fan is such a blessing and a curse.

I've worked in healthcare for 30+ years, worked with and seen many good orthopods, but technology changes like coaches at UT (sorry, had to) and with all the new techniques and non-evasive procedures, there is a lot of great surgeons, but very few that are simply the best at sports related injuries. Not saying the two surgeons were past their prime, but there had to be a reason.

Go Vols!

This is the first time that I have ever heard of a college football coach replacing medical personnel.

When Saban rolls into town I wonder if he gets new doctors. I bet so. Wild baseless speculation but I believe Pruitt is micromanaging the way he believes Saban would do. Old or new they will probably be very busy.

Honestly when a new coach starts off they have to Micromanage in order to establish things the way they want the program to be ran.

Once there is an established way of doing things you can let go of the reins a little bit and let people do their jobs.

So this comment to me makes no sense.

It's his job as the "Head Football Coach" to ensure that the Football team and program are setup for success if any portion of that fails because he didn't put it the way he wants it and let someone else do it, it is still on him.

So, adding in new doctors who are probably significantly younger and will be around for many more years is not a bad thing. (At some point it is out with the old and in with the new)

I worked with them for about ten years and they are solid ortho docs. Sad to see them go

Jeremy Pruitt relieves two doctors with long record of serving Vols football of duties

Agreed. I have no problem with CJP coming in and doing the things he wants done--that's what we hired him for. But, I'm start to getting this feeling like we're becoming the Ala-bubba north team... I'm thinking maybe that's all he knows. Frankly, I don't much like that--especially when the feeling is, he'll head that way with the first opportunity. It's not like UT had no facilities and no culture before his azz showed up.

Look, I want him to have a long leash, and i want him to succeed, but he needs to remember, before Saban showed up, Ala-bubba was CRAP for many years. It's not like we're chopped liver--or...?

Explain to me what is wrong with designing your program like Alabama's?

Alabama has significantly more staff than UT has that help in all sorts of ways for the program. They didn't start with them, those positions grew over time.

Pruitt has come in and vastly increased the number of staff positions the UT Football program has while offering his assistant coaches wages that are 2nd to none to coach and assist at UT.

Sabans Football team and staff model aren't something to dismiss and they are also the reason that program is successful.

I suppose Clemson or Georgia don't use the same model.... Considering those coaches came from Alabama..... (Two schools who are major contenders respectively in their divisions)

The fanbase and UT need to learn to adapt and change to the times and Pruitt is bringing that change. Let him work.

If he leaves for Alabama it's because he coached extremely well here at UT otherwise he definitely wouldn't get offered an Alabama coaching job. (The reasoning for you fans on this is ridiculous btw, stating he will leave if offered)

Don't know if it is recruiting, but they have one hole cartilage clean up methods for knees now with almost no recovery time.

Pruitt is doing a full overhaul for better or worse.

As most incoming managers of large operations do. It is a two way proposition.

CJP wants his own soldiers.
UT can best clearly judge his worth = it's his program.
Both sides are fully accountable.

More on this subject please..."the new techniques and non-evasive procedures, there is a lot of great surgeons, but very few that are simply the best at sports related injuries."
