Domino effect.

the problem is a lot like the gruden situation.

people convince themselves that there is a legitimate shot of something happening that is never going to happen

several of these "big fish" are not going to tennessee and tennessee really wasn't as in the game on them as some like to think. however, they are legitimately in on a few

but, i don't know how much could be expected from a coach who is mostly unknown to do in a couple of months.

I get what you are saying but I don't believe this is anything like the Gruden situation. Gruden was all rumor and speculation. He never publicly mentioned anything about coming to Tennessee unless it was to say that he was NOT. The "big fish" recruits that we are after are real life possibilities and I don't think Vol fans are being foolish to be optimistic. When a top 5* RB has your hat on the table (even if he ends up choosing Michigan) it is a good thing....and means we did have legit shot. I think the last 3 years there were a lot more rumors than truth to the guys we were in on but this year it feels different. This staff is doing something right. Who knows, we will see on NSD. And to the op this is not a domino situation. There are so many more factors to this kind of decision than whether or not a buddy is going to a school or not. IMO. Go Vols!

Stop being all smokescreeny and what not! He's coming! My Grudometer is stuck on 100! It's absolute Grudumonium!!

"If Jon Gruden so much as farts in the neighboring county of a top recruit it would be the lead story on sportscenter"!

"He's coming"!!

You are a damn idiot then. I don't have to convince myself at all, I know for a fact he was a legitimate possibility.

There is also a possibility that we will win the NC next year but I think I will keep my money in my wallet.

Gruden's agent said so. No 'official' offer was ever made. Gruden was never coming here, he's NOT a college coach, never will be. NFL may call him one day but not college. He would be crazy to give up the job he has now even for the NFL. Nooooo stress.

I'm not even sure we can consider Gruden a legit candidate for a pro job anymore.

Are you saying Gruden to Tennessee was not realistic? I agree 100% about the recruit part but if you are saying Gruden was never a legitimate possibility to be the head coach at Tennessee you are clueless.

I agree with 99,you are the one that is living in a fantasy world. Gruden was never going to come to Tennessee.

1. OP, step away from the ledge.

2. A bunch of ya'lls sarcasm detectors are busted.

3. Gruden is not our coach. Hell, he probably never will be. Who gives a rat's @$$! We have a coach who has a winning record from a D1 school who has shown that he wants to be here. He has worked very aggresively on the recruiting trail. He has embraced the traditions of UT football. He has opened the doors to former players. Next year, a new era of Tennessee football will begin. Be grateful for that!

Ill tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that gruden was never coming here. 100% never going to happen for us or any college team for that matter.

i'm saying gruden was not a legitimate possibility to become the head coach at tennessee.

if you want to convince yourselves he was, cool.

Only reason Gruden didn't come here is because he knew he had to travel to Gainesville every other year and he didn't wanna risk getting herpes.

Like the rest of you I'm not getting my hopes up. I went all in on kiffin and Dooley. Both burned our program down. So I'm skid dish to the whole thing.

I'm not expecting anything great this recruiting season. Butch is gonna have to coach up the players and win, before other high end players really start to see Tennessee as a contender again.

I think we have a long road ahead of us. Butch seems like pearl to me as lots of energy and will leave it on the field. Lets just hope he can out coach the Saban's,Richt, and Spurriers of the sec.

Go Vols

I agree with you, but the bolded word above causes concern.

Well, if Bama hadn't gotten Saban, then naysayers would have said they had no chance. It is an opportunity to look like a know-it-all. Now, Saban to Bama was probably a lot more likely than Grude to TN, but yeah, there was a chance, and it was greater than 1%.

Of course, that is just my opinion. That is all it is for everyone, except maybe Gruden himself.

I love how one half of the board is talking about optimism on the hill and good things to come and the other is talking about the fact that we are losing kids to Ole Miss, Vandy, and other schools traditionally below us and we won't end up with a single high-profile kid. I think we are somewhere in the middle....

Actually you are clueless buddy. Gruden was never considering the job here. It was fabricated in all of the fan's minds because of his ties to the university. If Gruden had been interested in the position, he would be here.

No ****? We're not even going to sign a full class?

We don't "have" anyone until LOI's roll in. WTF does your post even mean?

We have 18 commits now and will most likely lose a couple of those and maybe pick 5 or six more. I don`t think we will sign a full class. Maybe 22 or 23.

WOW ... Relax evil do'ers. I meen there are NO dominos to fall. We have who we have, the recruits will send in the LOIs and we get who get. Not Rocket Science here. Stop with all the "we're gonna flip this guy and that guy", say it however you like - We should be happy with the recruiting CBJ has done, given the circumstances.

Just saw these posts...

Gotcha... my point is "We are done... we have who we have" clearly implies that nobody beyond the current UT commitments will sign. That's asinine.

My response may have come off as angry - I'm perfectly calm. But see above. Since your post North has committed. I don't know whether you call it a flip or not, but we're clearly not done until signing day. Lawson has interest, but is committed to AU... Bell had Bama leading. If they sign with us we "flipped" them. Your post just seems defeatist and misinformed.
