Eh, it shouldn't be too bad. My b-day is Friday and my girlfriend wants to go, so we are going up Sat. for my b-day. I will go back roads and miss most of the traffic.I'm sure it will be fun, but it made me think of all the things I would rather do than be caught dead in Pigeon Forge on a weekend like: Re-roof my house; have a colonoscopy; do my taxes; etc.
You know you liked it. My advice is to bypass Pigeon Forge and go straight to Gatlinburg.I guess my impression of Pigeon Forge was clouded by the unfortunate incident after the Florida game where WGC and I got flashed at 60 mph by a fat chick coming out the top of a Ford Explorer. I'm still having nightmares.
I don't know when you have been, but the lines aren't that bad anymore. As for the food and ticket prices, it is very over priced. It is hard to beat the all-you-can-eat beans and greens though.Silver Dollar City was great.
Dollywood great if you love waiting in line for rides and overpriced food and tickets.
That is what I do when going to the mountains or Gatlinburg. I would rather be shot than fight traffic in Pigeon Forge.Pigeon Forge is a total nightmare. Ever since it swallowed all of the land between itself and Sevierville, it's been so bad that I won't even go that way to the Smokies anymore. Even if I want to do a hike in the Sugarlands area of the park, I'd almost rather go down through Maryville to Townsend and then work my way back over rather than drive through that armpit.
funny that has been talked about for years but the place still keeps turning record profits. They community is against anything esle other than Dollywood coming in there and it appears to be doing well without major thrill rides. The attraction is the theme of the park-hillbilly life. I dont see it going anywhere anytime soon.the new wooden rollercoaster is pretty good, I believe it's called the Thunderhead. It's not the Beast by any stretch, but it's more fun than the other coaster at D'wood (TN Tornado).
Timber Tower isn't worth standing in line for, it's a good concept just poor execution.
I'm waiting for the day when Dollywood gets bought by WB and turned into a new Six Flags. At the rate it's adding major thrill rides, my guess is that'll happen within the next 10 years.

It is the fact that Dolly Parton gives back so much to her community and Sevier county through Dollywood and the foundation that people dont want to see it go. Not saying it wont happen, but I think that the "locals" would not accept a six flags and it would not survive. Just my opinion from working there for 5 years and gorwing up in Sevier County.:thumbsup:the fact that it's doing so well is the main reason I think a major amusement franchise will eventually take it over. if you want an example of what I'm talking about, take a look at Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville. a highly successful independent amusement park that finally got big enough to be noticed by Six Flags. Dollywood is heading in that direction, if the community is against that, then they shouldn't have allowed the introduction of major thrill rides.
