Dogs

Not today. I've been hanging by him all day. I think whatever happened ended his sight, and he only had one eye anyway. Just carried his big ass to the yard and held up his back half. He was able to go with me helping him. He's just stumbling around like a punch drunk boxer.
Thanks again for the thoughts. You guys don't need to tell me you are sorry. It's understood.

This **** sucks though. Don't underestimate the sting for some people. Yeah, he's just a dog, but he's a big part of our family. By low estimates, homie has over 25k fetches in the pool in 12 years of swimming. Just a stud. A total dickhead at times, but a stud.

Dude, I cannot convey what I feel for you right now.

:cray: Might be "gay"....don't care.

I'm so sorry Sparty and 3*.

As pet owners, we will all have to deal with it. As a pet owner, I can only imagine what you are going through.

They are not "just dogs" imo.

3 and Sparty.......my heart goes out to you both.

I'm out.

This! They are our best friends and loyal family members.

Yeah sorry to hear about that fellas. I couldn't imagine anything happening to my two boys.

I have a 1 year old black lab, Little Bear and a 5 month old collie/chow mix, Zeus. They stay outside in the fenced in yard for the most part but I've had the house to myself the past few days so they've been inside with me.

They're actually sleeping on the couch right now..but sleeping with a 120 lb dog laying all over you makes for a restless night Lol.

I have a 14 pound Papillon (he's lost a pound on his diet!), and snuggling with him is one of life's most wonderful treasures. Except when he bites me on the nose when I'm snoring! Bad Arlo!

When Rocky dies, I will kill myself and be buried next to him. Sorry, guys. One of the most traumatizing things I had to go through as a kid was watching my dogs get old to the point that they couldn't move due to arthritis. Then, one day I would come home and they weren't there anymore, and my parents told me they had to have them put down.

You'll get over it, but you'll never forget them.

Planned on taking him in today, but he just walked up and put his chin on my leg and is better than yesterday.
I just don't know what to do.

Maybe just go to the vet and get some advice, treatment options from them. They can't make u put him down. I read yesterday that many dogs make a full recovery. Even when my pap had his mini-strokes he'd be out of it a day or so and then back to himself.

Agree with Kat

They didn't refill his last thyroid meds because they didn't think it was any use at this time. He's on anti inflamatory/pain meds and straight up pain meds for his back and hips. It's just hard to know what to do. If they were open yesterday, it would have been done. Today, mousse, aka lazarus, aka Houdini, aka prodigal dog, aka *******, is like a normal old grandparent, rather than a really sick one.
My new temporary plan is to try and get the damn pool ready, have a big party for him in a few days with all the people we have over (and that he has bothered by sticking a wet, cold ball in the middle of their backs when sitting in a chair out back), have him swim till he's exhausted, down some pizza and take him in.

Thought about you guys all night. Not often I get all choked up reading in the Endzone.

Ok, just consulted with the vet. He obviously had an event yesterday, but is doing ok today. She said if he doesn't bounce back after one of those for a few days, it's time, and compared him to assisted living right now.
I do compare it to family and appreciate the thoughts. When my father had a stroke and woke up from a long coma, some days I would see him and he'd ask who the eff I was, then I'd leave and cry. Then I'd go see him and he'd say "hey son, how are the boys" or "you guys don't have a qb" out of the blue and I'd leave and cry. It's very akin to that situation, as far as the good day/bad day situation.

This hard nosed sumbich is great, like your dogs. He has seen 3 kids come into this home, moved twice and met countless visitors. I have already heard back from 8 different families that are in for his swim party idea. We even go to the store and people ask about him because his Houdini personality made him exit the house by opening doors, take a tennis ball and go to houses in the neighborhood until he found people outside and would drop the ball at a kid's foot to play.

Sounds like a cool dog. When you have the pool party, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would enjoy seeing as many pics as you want to post.
