Does this qualify as a moral victory?

Moral victories are still losses. The program is on a good track with Heupel.
Both those things are true at the same time.

Even if on the same coaching level as Smart, we can't match GA's talent level at the moment.
And still just needed one guy to not jump and get a penalty, and/or one guy hit a FG well within his range, for the win.

I don’t think we are team or fanbase that accept moral victories any longer. I think it stings for everyone, but no reason anyone should be talking about coaches being fired.

My take: UGA staff showed the confidence in their players on that 4th/6. It was man to man and we challenged them to beat us at we got beat. Our staff went conservative after that strip sack and the final drive. Hate relying on a kicker to win it, especially if it’s outside of 25 yards.

Losses happen, even to really good teams. The question is what can this team and coaching staff learn from it and improve upon. I think if our guys learn from it, we can have a great year.

I’m sick of this crap too - but there were a lot of good signs that we haven’t seen in a while: O-line and WRs played really well. Our QB answered the big questions about him.

Unfortunately, that ridiculous false start penalty got in our kicker’s head. Getting lost on that 2-point conversion was pathetic - there wasn’t a defender writhing 15 yards of the guy in the end zone. Suddenly forgetting how to play offense and defense in OT.

While I am not sure we’ll sustain that level throughout the rest of the season (Heupel’s teams habitually drop 1 or 2 that we shouldn’t), there’s a lot to be hopeful about. Gotta see how the team responds.

My guess: 9-3 or 8-4

To be honest, I expected this year to be crap when Nico left late and Joey had to come in late and learn the system. We’re much further along as an offense than I thought we would be. Defense needs to be much better.

Moral victory? Hell idk. Get with me later in the year when I see what our record is. But yeah we’re a better team than I thought we would be.

The ONLY great games are the ones you win. No such thing as a Moral victory. If there were, I'd be able to watch the replay. I won't. Tennessee has done this too many times to even remember. Get close enough to make you think; "Hey we're gonna win!" Then BAM.

Well said, as the team grows we're going to be fine. Most of our talent is 21 and under.

Yeah I feel like Tennessee fans saw Dooley and Butch come close to beating good teams often enough (Pruitt usually just lost by huge margins to any good team) to learn that moral victories aren’t real. You can take some positives from this game, but that doesn’t make it a moral victory. If they even did exist, by year 5 you can’t claim them.

Who cares? The players and coaches are the ones who work their butts off. Their opinion of the game is the only one that matters.

All the opinions posted herecare insignificant. They do not matter. Except mine, of course.

If your emotional state is tied to wins and losses of 18-23 year old young men, you're gonna have a tough row to hoe in this life.

Another headache for Tennessee is that the big 3 (Alabama, Florida, and Georgia), have all had unprecedented success since Tennessee last won anything in 1998. They can, and do, bring in better players, coaching, etc.

Florida is falling off and we really need to start rolling them but Alabama is still decent (I feel like they are more our level) and Georgia is still elite. Georgia is going to be a headache for Tennessee and everyone as long as Kirby Smart is there.

These teams also NEVER overlook Tennessee, even when we are bad. I made a remark about it today pointing out that I wish we could be like Ole Miss, a team that Georgia didn't care about, so we could get them folding after our early surges.

I believe in moral victories and this one not only counts, but is more than that. Now I wish we got an actual victory, but this performance should give the team confidence that they can beat anyone if they get healthy and make that one or two extra plays. We are young and the team took some punches, but they also punched back. Joey should feel more confident. So should our receivers, especially Brazzell.

As far as tangible meaning, In the CFP rankings this loss will hold positive weight when comparing our resume with other teams. Our offense will be viewed as very powerful having scored 41 points on that defense. The defensive performance wasn't great, but could be put in context as long as they get healthy and string together some good performances down the road.

Seems like a few Vol fans are trying to rationalize it as such.

Myaelf, I'm sick to my stomach after this one.
We are not in the Butch Jones era again. So no moral victories. We had Georgia beat. I think the coaches messed up the last few seconds in regulation time.

Honest question, where was UGA better than UT today? DBs? Maybe. Where else?
