Does the NCAA have authority to step in at some point?

Guys, "dumpster fire" doesn't even remotely do justice to what is currently transpiring in Knoxville.

I have never seen anything like this, nor has anyone I associate with on a regular basis (including countless fans of other schools around the conference/country).

This is an embarrassment to not only Tennessee and the SEC, but to the NCAA as a whole. What has happened at UT in the last week gives a whole new meaning to "lack of institutional control". In fact, I have coined a new term for it: Managerial Incoherence.

There is no rhyme or reason to the madness, it is just a discombobulated jumble of power struggle, incompetence abound, hidden behind the guise of suits and ties.

I guess my question is, is there a point at which the NCAA calls in and finally asks, "wtf are you people doing?" Because honestly, I'm not sure there is another way this gets under control.

And if nobody inside the vast ineptness of the university's power structure has the gonads to get a handle on this situation, the leadership might have to come from elsewhere.

Lack of institutional control doesn't refer to the same thing as this. Our admin is fully within its rights to destroy its own program without the NCAA chiming in.

The NCAA is it's own clusterf---. Even if they were to step in, they would screw things up even worse. We need to take care of our own backyard!

This is what happens when you put a bunch of bean-counter, ivory tower academics in charge of actually accomplishing something. Useless individuals. Most people go to school, then go out and get a real job in the real world. These are the most out of touch type of people you will ever meet, and they have nothing but disdain for the average fan.

OP - You may think that you coined a new phrase (Managerial Incoherence), but it has been around a long time.

And it does describe what has been happening on the Hill.

Absolutely not. The NCAA has no authority over the schools except that authority which the schools invest in it. I mean, the very idea is crazy. Why would the NCAA have any such authority? Or any school allow a private institution to have such authority?

Tennessee is its own operator and it will have to deal with its problems.

No. This is completely out of the NCAA’s jurisdiction. They have no control over our coaching search, unless we try to hire someone who has been sanctioned. Even then, they couldn’t stop it. They would just put stipulations on it.
