Does the first game set our expectations for 2007-08

I'd say you guys will do fine in the SEC, but Cal will beat you because you will look past us to SMU and Florida. Really a crazy thing to do but I see it happening.

I agree . . . A lot of teams have that problem of looking past their next opponent when they see Southern Miss on the schedule. The history and passion surrounding the Southern Miss game is very distracting.

Cal is just about a consensus to have the best passing attack in the country this year. UTK will have three new starters at DB. THAT is going to be the key matchup. I think the Vols will score points but if Cal is able to light up UTK's backfield like a pinball machine I do not see the Orange having the firepower to win a shootout.

I think Cal will throw for 250 yards, but I also think our improved pass rush and our speedy linebackers will force a few turnovers from picks. Turnovers will be huge.

I don't think Cal will have time to be playing pinball in the backfield.
I'm fairly confident that our defensive line and linebackers will be able to get pressure. Young corners look really good when they only have to guard for two or three seconds...

Agree about the importance of the matchup though.

Well compared to Cal the SMU game seems to be a lot tougher, no?

If our O-line can hold it could be magical for us!
