Does the first game set our expectations for 2007-08

dude no one outside the pac-10 has any respect for us anyway. All it will do is reinforce the SC and 9 dwarfs stuff. Win and maybe we get some national respect. That's assuming Tenn then goes and does something though.

Well try being a little more optimistic about the situation, huh Droski. I think you fail to recognize just how big a victory over UT would be. If we win, rather, when we win, it will open up doors traditionally closed to us. Soon we will schedule an SEC team every season. Can't wait to play some of the other folks. Of course we need to put USC in its place also. Mind you I am not delusional. Plenty of teams become good over time, with a solid coaching and recruiting staff the sky is the limit. All we need really is our new facilities and an upgrade to Memorial and we are set. The fan base is there, the support is there, we just need the W's now.

we were 1 play away from winning the conference outright last season. how is that not "challenging SC"?

Thank you! See Droski, together we can turn back the tide of these fans in here. We have to educate them to the facts that we are a good team and we can win.

Yeah, good point. A lot can change in a year though. From what I have heard Florida will be lucky to be half the team it was last year.

Wasn't that "1 play" against AZ?
And you haven't won the PAC-10 outright since 1958. I don't really consider that challenging.

What difference is it if it is 50 years or 10 years? Well about 40 years I guess. My point is you guys have a ways to go also. Just because you won a NC 10 years ago doesn't mean you are better than us. What have you done lately besides beat up an awestruck Cal team?

Nice one lol. I admit we havn't been the same since the 90s, but if you really think Cal is on the national scale like Tenn is your just blind. Yes we are better than your team. Tenn has a history, and Cal has nothing. That says it all right there.

That wasn't what I was saying, yes you have more acolades and respect than Cal. What I was saying is, well, is that we are good too, man, and we might just beat you this year.

To really gain respect you have got to start winning your conference first.Which means beating USC.Yes Cal will gain respect if they beat Tenn. But Cal really needs to concentrate more on USC and winning the conference.

They could beat a pop warner team I bet, so give them some respect!

Yes yes, you are right. Still, if we lose to Tennessee it may not matter if we win the conference and beat USC. Public opinion will already be set against us from a loss to an SEC team. We have to be like USC and do what they did to Arkansas, to you guys. Probably won't happen like that but we can still win.

Sorry to Cal Bears fans, but I just don't think California is that good.

California will not have back 2 key D starters, and Lynch. With those players, we destroyed the Bears when everybody though the Bears were going to be a top 10 team all year.

Yes we have lost some key players, but our drop off is not as much as Cals drop off.

We will have a healthy QB, 2 capable RB's, and our receivers are going to be excellent.

If anything we have Eric Berry to come in and help off the start, and we will have a very, very quick LB group.

If this was a game in the middle of the season, maybe California would have a chance, but for a game #1, loser slips behind the 8 ball right off the start kind of game, you have to think Tennessee will win outright.

I won't call a blowout, but i'm thinking we will be up by 17-20 points, and possibly Cal making a late push to make it a 37-24 Tennessee win.

The game that will set our expectations is the Florida game. After that we'll probably adjust them after Georgia, and again after Arkansas. So many games we can lose this year, a 10 win season seems improbable...

Well in that case you don't have to win the Cal game. You just need to beat LSU, Florida and all the rest of the SEC. What difference does the Cal game make for you guys anyway?

We will see in the near future. But really Tenn should be walking out with a victory. I'll be disappointed if they don't.

In one season Neyland went undefeated and unscored upon in the regular season. Still a record to this day, and will never be broken. But not to many people remember that.

Was that the 98 season? The year before you won the SEC and then the next year you won the NC right?

The speed of the linebackers was the back-breaker last year, and if you thought they were fast last year, wait untill this year. Replace Mitchell with a faster Mayo and replace Mayo with an even faster McCoy.
