Does the first game set our expectations for 2007-08

Teddy if Cal won this game would it be considered by you as one of the best wins of your season?

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares that it is OOC. We need this one for our reputation and for our recruiting.

Not necessarily. We can both be really good this year and the game can be a whole lot closer than last year’s blowout. What if the game went into OT and we won? That would show that you guys are pretty good and just barely lost. Then when you go back to the SEC you won’t have to feel as bad. I personally would like to see that happen but I am not so sure that is very realistic given our thirst for revenge after the slaughter last year.

Really the only other game that can compare to this one on your schedule is USC. Teddy, Cal can't afford to not show up like they did last year.Remember this game is in front of a nationaly televised audience on ABC primetime.

NO KIDDING! Cal fans have been known to get pretty pissed when we are not doing well. One year they even booed our own QB. So if it goes like last year there could be real trouble for Cal from its own people!

So rest assured we will show up and fight to the DEATH!

Are you a better team or worse team than last year?

2006 - Auburn would have beaten Cal

Not if they played like they did against Georgia or Arkansas. They didn't play either game like they cared at all who won. I'm not sure I've ever seen a #2 team that expected to be competing for a national championship lose with less of a sense of urgency than Auburn did against the Hogs last fall.

Ya the Cal team will be dead by the end of the game. Tenn won't become awe struck like Cal was with our crowd. Playing a game in front of your crowd is nothing compared to what Tenn has to face on the road in the Sec.

Well it is so hard to say at this point. I would like to think that we are much better for the sole fact that our QB has settled down and turned into a real rocket with laser accuracy. On the downside we lost several good defensive players and on offense we lost Marshawn Lynch. We have a much better fullback and our receiving corps has matured for another year and is now being called the best trio in the land. If Nate can have protection from our line against you guys I don't see how you can win with a young secondary. I would say the same for you guys but your receivers are largely untested. Last year you got a bunch of TDs when your best receiver burned a rookie with a broken hand. That won't happen this year.

So the game is already decided? :cray:

No, but I expect Tenn to walk in there and get the victory.I think Cal is going to have to gain a reputation elsewhere.

You remember when the Cal d-line was ranked "#1 in the land" last season too? :eek:lol:pre-season rankings mean nothing.

How settled down was Longshore vs. USC or AZ last year?

But we need to beat an SEC team and you are the only one that we play. We simply have to beat you or else!

You see beating an SEC team, one of the better ones, will be a major propaganda coup for Cal in terms of recruiting and dealing with the environmental radicals who oppose our facilities expansion. If we beat you other Pac teams (with the exception of USC) will be scared of us.

Ok well the other teams being scared of us may have been a stretch but you know if Cal wins that it will be a major propaganda coup. Come on Droski, it will be huge for us. If you disagree just imagine if we lose, how is that going to look?

Well to answer my own question it will look very bad. Being beat two years in a row by an SEC team will hurt our rankings and prestige for years to come. Every time we start to do well people will just say, "yeah but Tennessee beat them every time." Loosing to Tennessee has the potential to have catastrophic ramifications well into the future. That is why we simply cannot lose under any circumstances!

How'd it look last year?

really, really bad! That lose really hurt our poor coach, he was all depressed and everything after the game. this year i don't think he will bear another loss all that well. hence, we must win this one for the coach!

dude no one outside the pac-10 has any respect for us anyway. All it will do is reinforce the SC and 9 dwarfs stuff. Win and maybe we get some national respect. That's assuming Tenn then goes and does something though.

Start challenging USC for the conf title if you want national respect.
