Does the Auburn winning help or hurt?

You know what, this response doesn't even deserve a comeback. Ut's record the last 3 years? Exactly what point are you trying to make? Three coaches in three years and you post the record? Are you freaking kidding me?

You honestly think it helps that our competition is better than us? You like losing to UF for the last 6 years? You like losing to Alabama?

I doubt Auburn is in trouble. The NCAA snooped around for nearly a year on this case, and declared CN eligible. They are not going to re-visit just to look incompetent. The ncaa and sec knows that players are being paid----everywhere. That's been the norm since at least the 50's. Every school has 2-5 players each year getting $. There was too much money involved in the SEC CG, the National Title game, to stop Cam and Auburn. It ain't happening. Besides, Trooper could've threatened to "Tell All"---and he knows plenty---if they persisted. Notice the talent level at Okie St lately? T.Boone is loaded.

I DON'T believe there was a shot from the grassy knowl...

I DO know we put a man on the moon...

I DON'T think we blew up the WTT ourselves...

But I DO think that the FBI told the NCAA to take a hike for a while as they continue their look into Alabama political favors for sale...and that they'll let the NCAA know when they can get back into looking at certain folks (who happen to be Auburn Board of Trustee Members)...and I certainly DO NOT think that Cecil Newton turned down $180K for $0...and still got his church refurbished and loans settled...from thin air and prayer.

So...I think for the integrity of College Sports...there WILL have to be further answers provided by the NCAA.

Just my opinion.

I will enjoy watching Auburn Fans eat crow.

It's a loser thing. I'm sorry, but Alabama and Florida aren't rooting for other SEC teams.

My roots run deep and I just couldnt even imagine cheering for a team from Oregon over a team in the south. Nothing to do with whose losing or winning at the time. Special Ed you must either 1: be a yankee or 2: not a true sports fan.

You root for your biggest rivals and I'm not the true fan? To be fair, you wrote sports fan and not a fan of a specific team. Cling tight to your southern pride as that's all you got I guess.

I've heard two sides of this.

One say having to recruit against another National Champ will make recruiting harder, and the other says the spot light and revenue pulled in help the entire conference. I kind of side with the latter.

What say you?

EDIT:
Woops, title is jacked up a little... was thinking "THE SEC" but put Auburn... )

the FBI is whats going to hurt them

Hope Auburn gets killed and then the NCAA burns Auburn to the ground.

It depends. If we are trying to recruit the same guy as Auburn, then it hurts. If we are trying to recruit the same guy as USC or Michigan, then we can pull the SEC card.

Yes, I do cheer (a root comes from either a tree, plant, or tooth) for other SEC teams that are playing out of conference. I cheer for Tennessee regardless of who they are playing. I hate to admit this, but I do not see any rival in a team that we haven't beaten since 2004. Of course it could be 26 years...
And please believe I will hold onto to my southern pride until the day I die.

Auburn winning helps Auburn. We compete against Auburn. Go Ducks.

As far as I'm concerned the only purpose of the SEC is for the advancement of Tennessee. Screw the rest of the teams in the conference. They're our competition, not our partners.

I wonder if "the Auburn" wins, will they have the trophy at "the walmarts"? Sorry if that offended any elderly folks, I saw the thread title and had to.

If you support other SEC teams out of some southern pride thing or whatever, then that's no less irrational than supporting a given team in the first place, so no problem. If you cheer for other SEC teams to win championships because you think it somehow helps Tennessee, then you're a chump.

Never said it helps Tennessee. How could it? My point is, being raised in the south I could not, no way no how, cheer for a team from the west over a team from the southeast. Be it AU vs. OU or App St. vs. Cal Poly, it doesn't matter. I guess I'm just not as cool as some people. Oh well...

There are plenty of people who argue that it does.

I wasn't being flip -- if you regard southern football as an object of support in and of itself, like you would a given team, then I've got no argument with you about rooting for another SEC team to win the title. But Nick Saban holding up the crystal football DOES NOT HELP TENNESSEE. Whatever tiny incremental benefit we get with recruits from out of the region whom it makes more eager to play in the SEC is dwarfed by the real boost it gives to a rival with whom we compete on the field and for recruits. We get a penny; Alabama gets five dollars. That doesn't help us.

I hope Oregon wins by 30. I can't remember the last time I cheered for an sec team in an ooc game. I say screw everybody but Tennessee

Tennessee playing good and winning helps Tennessee. I'm all Tennessee all the time. Go Vols.

I'd rather the SEC win it no matter who it is.. unless it's Florida

It only makes you look better if your conference is always winning the championship. That is why you hear recruits saying, "I love TN and it is awesome that they play in the best conference in the nation!"

Don't think it doesn't help.

That trophy belongs to the SEC...Auburn better not lose it.

I hope Auburn gets spanked and becomes the first sec team to lose the bcs national champ game, then they will all be reminded that they are "Auburn".

It must be tough for them, being second place in their own state.

AMEN I mean as a tn fan i had to pull for both ala and usc jr just so the nation wouldn't be pulled into this . I will pull for sec teams that have earned it not bought it!
