Interested in hearing people's thoughts on this. I've heard it both ways. Does Tennessee's on court success help or hurt us with the NCAA??

IMO... it hurts us. If Tennessee keeps winning, keeps a high national ranking and the spotlight that goes with it, gets a high seed in the NCAA and does well in it... I can see the NCAA wanting to slam the hammer even more - simply because they don't want the perception that Pearl's lying gave TN an advantage and that we benefited from it on the court. Might have been better to be mediocre right now at 4-2 and out of the "Big East Contender" conversation lol

Your thoughts?

If we were Auburn...and this were football it would help. But since we aren't and it's not... :shakehead:

I think it hurts us. The NCAA already has a perceived black eye nationally because of the Cam Newton debacle. And because we are getting some great national attention now, I'm concerned that they'll stick it to us as an example. I hope I'm wrong though.

Seems like the NCAA just picks and chooses who they punish. They will soon be fighting other battles for this perception. They want MONEY.....Plain and simple.........

Helps i hope. But i love the way announcers for the Tennessee/Pitt game bashed Slive for making Pearl sit out the first 8 SEC games. I really hope we win the SEC championship and watch Slive have to hand Bruce the Championship trophy. That would be priceless.

Sadly I think it hurts us. We're already under the skin of the NCAA by breaking their rules and lying about it, now we're actually putting together a good season. This has got to stick in the NCAA's crawl big time. I wouldn't be surprised if they doled out a much too harsh punishment to flex their muscles and, in typical hypocritical NCAA fashion, make an example out of us. You're parents can pimp you out for money (as long as you don't know about it wink wink), but how dare you go to a coaches house for a bbq or talk on the phone with him too much.

And I understand I'll probably get some smarta$$ comment about how we're getting punished because Pearl lied. And that's true, he did lie and he should be punished (which he has by, not one but two governing bodies). But in this case, the punishment will certainly not fit the crime.

Other than the 8-game suspension, the punishments will be felt in future seasons, not this one. The recruiting restrictions, the reputation hit, and the period of waiting on the NCAA's ruling will all affect the players the program can sign going forward.

I think it wont matter too much. Public perception seems to be softening on ol Bruce. He's this years Jim Calhoun, winning trumps all.

I think it helps. If Memphis had one the title a couple of years ago, then the Derrick Rose stuff would have never come out.

If we were 3-4 right now, it would be on the page 11-E of the College Hoops News. Since we are one of the best teams in the country, it is the Headline. NCAA cannot turn a blind eye to Headlines.

It don't know if it'd hurt worse to miss a #1 seed in a single tourney (which you'd have to consider us for, thus far this season), or to miss a couple of tourneys with a 4-7 seed.

There are two trains on a collision course - everyone is talking about two things:

1. BP's lies and the pending violations
2. How exceedingly well the Vols are playing, and are.

That's not lost on fans around the country, with the natural assumption being that our success is somehow attributed to cheating, which has to be placing exceedingly greater pressure on the 'AA to sufficiently punish us. And the train wreck ensues.

No, it helps us. More people watch successful teams, therefore we'll make them more money as long as we keep winning.

That was my thought..Watching Cam's deal unfold it definitely seemed to help his situation, but I'm not convinced it won't go the other way for us
