Why interview Freeze or Briles if they don’t fit your offensive philosophy? Makes zero sense. If they don’t fit why even entertain 2 guys that have a suspect background? My thinking is he’s an idiot. He tried to hire these guy hoping they’d conform to him and get them super cheap bc of there shady past. It’s one thing to strike out on one, but to strike out on 2? It’s they either said FU I’m not coming to work for you and have to change my style and for very little money, or Someone like Phil is preventing it. Both Pruit and Phil are literally learning on the job. Which shouldn’t be happening here at TN.

I don't understand your specific kind of stupid, but I do admire your total commitment to it.

if you were the OC of Houston [Bowl bound] or Ok State [Bowl bound] would you risk coming to Tennessee right now? We have not been good for 10 years and though I believe Pruitt will turn it around, he has no track record as a head coach. A gamble for a proven OC in a program that is rocking right now to leave and come here.

Offensive philosophies can be adapted as long as there is a balance of running and passing. A good coach should be able to adapt to personnel and changes in game strategies over time. I wish UT would run a similar offense to the NFL Saints. Of course it looks better when you have Drew Brees and Kamara as players. Are there any true distinct offensive schemes out there ? I believe they all are hybrids and similar to different music types.

Ok cool. So why did he interview two guys with shady pasts and why did he strike out on both?

IT may not be Pruitt. It may not be Phil. It may not be the BOT, or administration. Who care who gets the blame.

The fact is the program is a complete dumpster fire at this point.

If Pruitt can salvage anything here he can really help his resume. If not, this program will be seen as a black hole for coaching careers.

I will pull for Pruitt as I have been a Vol fan for decades. But I still think that we made a huge mistake when we let a rookie athletic director hire a rookie coach for the situation we had in place a year ago. Fulmer hired Pruitt to take us back to the past. Unfortunately, he took us back to the 1920's when Vandy last beat us 3 times in a row. Pruitt was not a match and had no experience for the existing personnel we had at that time. I think it is telling that he is interviewing spread and high powered offense OC candidates. That would be correcting a mistake made a year ago. Hopefully if we make that transition we can obscure some of the deficiencies of our offensive line and score some points.

I'm not sure I understand the question or point you are making. Pruitt should be adaptable to the type of offense that can be successful. I believe an offense that is somewhat balanced will have more success long term. If you strictly use a spread offense it will be harder to keep the other other teams offenses from scoring regardless of how good the personnel is on defense. Every game would be a shootout like the Big 12 conference. The best offensive scheme IMO is one that can stretch the defense but can be adaptable to power running when needed.
