The schedule is what it is because of tradition and wanting to keep traditions alive.

Kentucky and Vandy are in November because you’ve always played them in November.

Alabama is where it is for the same reason.

The conference games are lined up basically the same way they were in the 70’s.

It’s always been front loaded.

Yes it has. That's why everyone always bragged about Fulmer's November record. Of course he went undefeated in November for 10 years or so.

But playing you all at the end of the 2001 season was a beautiful thing.

Tradition is worthless unless you're winning.

In the era of superconferences and division play and championship games, winning and business has to override tradition.

The problem is you never know from year to year who is good and who isn’t.

This year’s Tennessee schedule is actually as friendly as it’s going to get.

The 2001 Vols get through September and November winning by an average of 3 touchdowns minimum.

They are favored to beat Georgia at home and are capable of beating Alabama.

Step 1 is to field a football team worth a damn.

That’s at least 90% of the problem.

I see the argument from the other side. Our division winner should be based solely on division record. In a year where we play Bama and Auburn, our in division opponents could face weaker West opponents. The only true barometer is playing the same opponents.

Umm, I’m thinking last year and every other year we played them. Even with two losses we owned the tie breaker with Florida and Georgia. Just don’t see the advantage of playing them. We get them in the championship anyway. I want to be smarter than the macho crowd think they can beat the world.

Yes. I wish there was some way of getting rid of all the permanent opponents in the other division and playing other teams more often. I enjoyed playing Auburn just as much as Alabama and we don't get to see them much anymore.

As long as the conference continues the one permanent opponent, I doubt if bama is replaced though.

The SECCG had been played like this since 1992. We have never played Bama in it yet. In 25 years! Both teams have went through dominant and doormat stages over the period.

The odds of a replay in the SECCG are minute because of the fact one of the two must lose an extra conference game while playing their division. The math says a replay is rare.

Only to coaches who are insecure in their abilities. Johnny Majors thought it was a challenge to supplant Bear Bryant as the King of the SEC. And he recruited players who wanted to be the best.

If a coach does not want to envision knocking Saban off his throne then he is not needed here. Alabama has set the bar in college football and we need a coach who wants to challenge that. Otherwise we are stuck in the mediocrity that has been evident since the last 3-4 years of the Fulmer reign.
