Does playing the crimson

F'n loser mentality, if we can't beat them let's just play weaker teams we can beat. That IS NOT the way to build a championship program. Please stop thinking that we can't be winners.

How is that working out for you there. :loco:

Tennessee is 0-7 in league play right now.

This is like the Cleveland Browns complaining about how hard and unfair it is for them to make the Super Bowl because they’d have to go through New England to get there

turds every year and the tougher OOC game negatively affect the perception of the Tennesse job?

Tradition is important and we've had some great games over the years, but I could see that it may have some impact. It's kind of a double edge sword. What do y'all think

Many will say yes.......but great coaches want to play against great teams. Also if you win you you go to the playoffs. If Tennessee loses 1 game but wins the champ they will prob go to the playoff every time. Of they lose twice but win the champ they still have the chance to get in........this is not so everywhere or with every school.

If a coach might not want the job because of the reasons mentioned..........you don't want that coach anyway.

I would certainly hope so. Any coach dumb enough to overlook this would not be much good on a football field. That said, he might have some influence over the OOC eventually. Like the year before he gets fired.

Are you 100% sure that this didn't already work? Like for Ohio State, for instance, in 14. I think it worked.

In 13 Florida State's non-conf schedule was Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, Idaho, and Florida. Admittedly Florida could be good, they just haven't been.

I'm no philosopher. If life's all about platitudes I missed the boat. Having observed how the API works for 50 years, I just don't see any evidence for this particular platitude.

For an average, mediocre coach? Yeah, probably...

For a good coach? No. Good coaches don’t fear competition.

Well, I can. And guess what they did to right the ship: broke out the checkbook and got the guy they wanted.

Currie: take note.

Just wanted to point out that they actually got their second choice. Their first turned them down...worst turn of luck for everyone in the SEC... except Bama of course.

The fairest solution would be for the East champion be determined only from games played against other East teams. Only as a fourth or fifth tie breaker would you look at the east-west interdivisional results. Will never happen though.

Almost forgot, wanted to add... words simply can't express how deeply I detest that gawd awful crimson team.

Maybe they will lose out the rest of the season.

and maybe I will the lottery without buying a ticket.

During the current streak, not once was UT kept out of the SEC Championship because they lost to Bama.

It doesn't seem to have an ill effect on Auburn....

Most frustrating narrative in our coaching search. Playing Bama every year is actually a huge positive for Tennessee. Its a guaranteed massive ratings game, and a highlight reel for potential recruits to show NFL scouts every year. It elevates the program.

It's also the most important historical rivalry in the SEC. It isn't the biggest, but it is a game between the two winningest programs in the SEC. Of course we have to play each other.

If we continue to play them every year, we better get a much better coach than Band Boy or Doolander. If we get another up-and-comer, we should quit playing them every year.

It should be an incentive. It gives coaches a chance to instantly be relevant if they get W's.

YES YES YES finally someone said what I’ve been preaching for three years. It’s stupid to play them every year because we would play them anyway in the SEC Championship. It puts us at a disadvantage in the East. There will be some in here that will say it’s a cowards way out we need to play as well as them to me that’s just playing dumb less play smart. Why put yourself in a disadvantage look in Georgia this year Auburn could beat Bama and they would have to play Auburn twice it’s just stupid. We need to rotate all the games in the other division not just for us for everyone in the division .

Can you name one year where losing to Alabama cost us the east?

So if i understand this thread correctly, we are crying that playing good teams puts you at a disadvantage for being a good team?

Yes. Particularly the way our schedule lines up. Most teams get to spread out their tough games. For example, do you think that Satan would enjoy playing Tennessee, LSU and Auburn in a four week stretch and then have to play whoever happened to be the toughest team in the East the following week? Every year, we play a couple of out of conference games, then run the gauntlet of UF, UGA, the up and coming West challenger to Bama (most years), Bama and then South Carolina. All by Halloween.

Even in a good year we are going to enter November with at least one loss and probably two losses.

Oh, and that schedule leaves us beaten and battered for the November run.

Yes, I know. UF doesn't want to play Tennessee AND FSU in November. Traditionalists want to keep the "Third Saturday in October" and Georgia doesn't want to move the Tennessee game closer to either the Auburn game, UF game or GT game.

Just because we're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get us. Our schedule plays a big role in keeping us from rising to the top and staying there.

The shear number of injuries that can result from the October gauntlet is definitely something to consider. We always seem to get decimated, especially the d line and o line.

It seems like we could move some games around and still keep our traditional rivalry games.

I don’t want a coach who would back down from playing anybody anywhere anytime.

I still remember Doolittle canceling the games with North Carolina. What a ***** move.

So what you are saying is of we didnt play in the sec we would be good? Perhaps we could enter conference usa or mountain west. Maybe go independent like ND. Heck we could drop to D2 and be awesome!!

Not suggesting leaving the SEC. Our AD should object to our unfair front loaded schedule though.

Now on the other hand, if we insist on hiring John P. Googlesearch to be our coach, then Conference USA would be better than 6th to 10th in the SEC.
