For the record, I complained ad nauseam about Pruitt. He was awful. So glad he's gone.

That said, do we have to complain about everything? Every single coach mentioned here in the past week...people complained about. Something was wrong with every single POSSIBLE hire.

Look, the fact is that Tennessee is not a top job right now, no matter how delusional our fanbase is. Despite the fact that most of our fans think it's a top 10 college job - it isn't. I'm not sure it's even a top 25 job right now, given the possible/likely NCAA sanctions.

If there was a top 10 or 15 coach out there that WANTED this job (and the possible $6-$8 million/year that came along with it), don't you think he would have reached out to Danny White and told him he would take it? Other coaches right now think Tennessee is toxic, and quite honestly, laugh at the fact that we think this job is:

a. attractive, and
b. way better than it actually is

We don't really have a choice but to trust Danny White. By all accounts, he's wonderful...and one of the top couple of ADs in the country.

Keep in mind, White hired Josh Heupel not once, but twice. He must like him.

I love the Vols. But damn, I get so tired of our fanbase complaining about literally everything. Just be happy we got rid of Fulmer and Pruitt, and let's give White and Heupel a chance to build something. Lord knows we've fallen so far that there's plenty to (re)build. Maybe Heupel can...maybe he can't...but this head coaching job isn't nearly as attractive as it used to be, and I'm willing to back the guy to give him a chance.

Nobody else wanted it, even for insane money. I hope Heupel can restore some of our past glory, and our fanbase can work on improving the awful perception that we currently have (outside of the state of Tennessee) about not being so dang negative about literally everything.

My guy, spot on. Except, it isn’t just VolNation that has to find fault and complain about everything . That’s now become the status quo for the Nation in today’s age.

I'm onboard with JH. Actually thought of him early on, but everything was pointing to a much bigger splash hire. Depending upon who he fills out his staff with, he could be a very good hire. JMHO

To be honest, UTAD and the ruling booster class have given us plenty of reasons to complain over the last generation.

Their decisions have put us into a place where we are staring right at entering a second generation of third-tier status in the SEC.

It is not fair to Heupel or White. But the other decision-makers, past and present, deserve every Bob Gibson-style high heater they get from this fanbase for what they have done to Tennessee football.

So.. you’re making this about the fanbase?

Are you saying we shouldn’t complain about the trash we’ve witnessed the last couple of decades? If something good happened do you not think we’d applaud it? If we won games you don’t think we’d be happy? Goodness.

Lucky any coach would come to this dumpster fire. NCAA coming for us so no top tier coach was coming and we're just lucky to get what we got. Give the guy a chance, maybe he can assemble a quality staff. Just accept the position we are in and get behind this guy. We really don't have any other choice.

A large majority of the posters on Volnation are absolutely lunatics disconnected from reality. They are calling for the head of a darn near universally acclaimed AD who backed up the brinks truck to a number of home run hires and gave it a shot. It is not his fault that those folks said no when faced with a depleted roster after portal defections with unknown sanctions on the horizon and this lunatic fanbase calling for people's heads before they've stepped on campus. Its amazing that these lunatics can't see that they are part of the problem. I mean, it was rumored that someone was sending hate emails to a candidate. I wasn't excited about that candidate either, but good grief. I'm not saying that this HC hire was my first choice, but even White implied that in the press release on UTSports. However, we do have a guy with head coaching experience, a winning record, and a high powered offense. Let's get behind him and get some stability.
