I've been wondering the same thing. He went conservative late against UGA as well. The Arkansas game gave me Butch Jones flashbacks. I don't know what's going onWhat has happened to the offense the last two games? It seems the play calling has changed from the first 4 games to the last two against State ahd Arkansas. It seems we have been less aggressive and more hesitant with play calling and more conservative in general. It’s like Heupel has morphed into Butch Jones getting ultra conservative and trying to sit on a lead. I noticed he started doing that last year as well now last season we had a good enough defense that we could do that and trust our defense to win the game. However we cannot do that this season the defense cannot be trusted to win the game we need our offense to score as much as we can and keep the throttle down. We left at least 10 points on the board against Arkansas and that game got way too nerve wracking at the end cause of Heupel’s conservative play calling and trying to milk the clock. We were fortunate we didn’t lose to Miss.St and Arkansas but a win is still a win but it don’t have to be so damn stress inducing. And if Heupel stays aggressive and goes for the kill shot against Georgia we win that game. Maybe he was saving some stuff for Bama and not showing much against State and Arky i don’t know.. Always play to win not too lose!! I watched A&M deliver the knockout punch to Florida last night and thought man it would be nice if we could close out a game like that and not sweat out another close game.
Heupel has been using this conservative process to help a bad defense for quite awhile. He's the head man....so he needs to fix the damn defense. 1 good defense out of 5 years isn't worth what Banks and his merry men make, IMO.Conservative play calling keeps a bad defense off the field. You are playing the clock trying to protect and win the game. Aggressive play can lead to turnover and getting bad D back out there.
That is another thought process to conservative thoughts
I wouldn’t argue that.Heupel has been using this conservative process to help a bad defense for quite awhile. He's the head man....so he needs to fix the damn defense. 1 good defense out of 5 years isn't worth what Banks and his merry men make, IMO.
Unless he fixes the defense he has no chance winning a championship....SEC or other. I hope at 9 million per year his goal isn't just getting there.I wouldn’t argue that.
I do think as long as he is competing for the CFP each year, he is not concerned with statistical results except wins and losses
I stopped long ago expecting championships. Very few championship coaches. I let things happen and if we get one, I will be very happy.Unless he fixes the defense he has no chance winning a championship....SEC or other. I hope at 9 million per year his goal isn't just getting there.
I figure we'll get one about every 50 years or so. Saw the one in '98 so I'm not gonna be around for the next one. Gonna enjoy each season for what it is and be happyI stopped long ago expecting championships. Very few championship coaches. I let things happen and if we get one, I will be very happy.
The last coaching hire that was made and I thought would deliver a championship was John Majors. After he couldn’t I no longer anticipate a championship from a hire. My hope is we are competitive.
Check those roster numbers and recruiting restrictions. Any of your anointed coaches listed dealing with that? 2028 is the last year of reduced schollies and recruiting restrictions. ‘Sparagus put a severe rectal assault on the program. ‘21 and ‘22 were amazing coaching jobs with a bare cupboard.Heupel inherited a dumpster fire but is also five years in, now.
