Does Dobbs make our OL better?

If I was an offensive coordinator against your defense with the skill positions of team 119, I'd whip your azz all day long. Dobbs will make your spy look silly. I'd release the TE to either pick up your spy or slip behind him and wear you out. Dobbs is most deadly when throwing short yardage passes especially when on the move.

I'd stick more with contain and try to make Hurd/Kamara break through the middle. Jam the WR's on the line and if Dobbs gets outside the contain, let the LB's/S track him down. He'll get some good runs but he can't win the game all by himself.

I'm not saying it will work. But you wait and see it will be the most popular decision by teams we face this year.

Because of Dobbs UT forces defenses to react. We saw it last year.

We will see more zone coverage and containment in 3rd and long. I'm just saying.

Also you motioned Dobbs in short yardage. I wouldn't have a spy in a short yardage situation.

I was speaking specifically about IF and its a big IF teams can put UT in 3rd and long.

I think they will contain and force him to throw out of the pocket. Because like you said......if he escapes he's good enough to pick up a 1st even in 3rd and long situation.

The OLine was going to improve if only by being on the field together and learning how to play next to one another. That's nothing new to any level of football or any other sport for that matter. You can help hide a below average lineman or an inexperienced lineman by having a better lineman or experienced linemen beside him but if they're all below average because of inability or inexperience then whaddya do? But, "gelling" along with having a VERY mobile QB changed everything. Did it make them "better"? It sure changed what they had to accomplish and how long they had to hold a block. They were getting experience though, for the better or not. I wouldn't say Dobbs made them better, they made themselves better.... I'll say Dobbs made them different.
They're practicing against some really good DL's also.

Mentioned this previously but might be worth saying again. OL is a "team effort". We're seeing one on one match ups where all the advantages are to the DL's. They get no help and the DL's don't have to worry about someone crashing down on them in a double team. They do not have to worry about the run or a screen dropping in behind them. They do not have to worry about staying in rush lanes or the QB taking off. All they have to do is worry about running over or around a guy whose first move is to shift his weight back away from contact.

I think that's also why the pass pro drills have looked so much worse than the "circle of life" match ups for the OL.

Better than what?

You should progress with reps.
You should do better against our traditional November schedule.
An offense running a read option with a qb that is not going to keep the ball is easier to defend than an offense running a read option with a qb that will keep the ball and run.

It was pointless to have Worley run a read option and front 7's just pinned their ears back and came. They didn't pay for it until a mobile qb was on board. It didn't have much to do with the O-line.

Boro, if you will notice their spelling, I believe that they just having fun. :good!:

I'm disappointed that my post wasn't immediately followed by one questioning Dobbs' pocket presents. I can only surmise hat this thread is filled with a bunch of pre-Madonnas.

How many of his interceptions were from the pocket or on the run?

Dobbs is more of a threat when his feet are moving.

When he moves it cause defenses to collapse therefore the receiver has more separation. See. Arron Rodgers etc.

Per Hubbs

Josh Dobbs has also taken important strides, continuing to both throw the ball better and elevate his leadership. Without question, Tennessee feels better than it ever has under Jones regarding its top-two quarterbacks and its overall depth at the position.
