Alright, so I did some research on the OL performance pre and post Dobbs. I know a lot of people use the excuse that Dobbs faced worse competition than Worley. So instead of looking at the pure numbers for sacks allowed and rushing yards, I looked at how we did compared to the opposing teams average stats for their whole season.

For example, with Worley at the helm we gave up 7 sacks against Ole Miss, who averaged 2.15 sacks per game this year. Therefore, we gave up 4.85 more sacks that game than their average opponent. I gathered all of these stats at cfbstats.com - College Football Statistics. Also note that I did not include the Chattanooga game so both Pre-Dobbs and Post-Dobbs stats are based on 6 games. Also, note that because these numbers are based on who our opponents played, Post-Dobbs included 6 teams from a Power-5 conference whereas Worley only faced 4.

Sacks Allowed
Pre-Dobbs: 25 sacks (4.17/game) for 180 yards (30 yds/game).
Opponent Avg : 15.62 sacks (2.60 sacks/game) for 109 yards (18 yds/game)

So over 6 games, our OL gave up 1.5 more sacks/game for 12 more yds/game than our opponent averaged over the course of the season. This means our OL was much worse than the average OL our opponents faced all season.

Post-Dobbs: 13 sacks (2.17/game) for 90 yards (15 yds/game).
Opponent AVG: 12.2 sacks (2.03/game) for 82 yards (13.8 yds/game)

So over 6 games, our OL gave up 0.79 more sacks/game for 1.2 more yds/game than our opponent averaged over the course of the season. This means our OL was average compared to the average OL our opponent played last season.

Based on sacks allowed alone, our OL performed significantly better than before Dobbs took over irrespective of the strength of the defenses he played against.

Rushing Yards
Pre-Dobbs: 89.17 yards/Game and 2.39 yards/carry
Opponent Avg: 143.90 yards/Game and 3.63 yards/carry

This is simple. We gained 55 less yards/game than our opponent's average rushing yards allowed and 1.2 less yards/carry.

Post-Dobbs: 207.50 yards/game and 4.3 yards/carry
Opponent Avg: 165.2 yards/game and 4.23 yards/carry

We averaged 42 more yards/game and roughly the same yards per carry as our opponent's averaged over the course of their season.

All in all, our OL was undoubtedly much better with a mobile quarterback back there. They weren't great, but they weren't awful.

I thought you were kidding but now I see you aren't. I really can't believe you think he made them better. Truth is with a mobile QB they were still bad, but you just could readily see it....

I'm not saying the players got better. I am saying their performance did, which applies to this year.

Our oline did get some better towards the end. They had a good game during the bowl, and it was them. Hurd had a good game also during that bowl, in part to the line playing better.

Fo-sho. He took enough pressure off of them to let them progress naturally. They may not be great, but his ability to move the pocket and create space was/ is invaluable.

Without a doubt he makes it better...

The tuck and run has to be accounted for. Worley was an oak tree..

Saying something positive about Dobbs on this site? NOT ALLOWED. You're only allowed to dismiss or minimize his contributions to the team last year. And instead wonder why Dormady hasn't been given a shot to start yet.

Dobbs does make the OL look better, but he also played against worse opponents. Because Vandy and KY are always at the end of UT's season, the late games are always easier.

Dobbs will be better this year then last. The OL should be better. We hope to have a full slate of receivers and the addition of Kamara will help him. I am a wait and see on all of the over the top hype about him until he proves it against quality opponents. I am sure as hell pulling for him.

Ridiculous....nobody has asserted that Dormady should be starting. Get over yourself.

Watch the game-tying touchdown pass from Dobbs to Croom in the South Carolina game. The right side got demolished, but Dobbs was able to just step up and make the pass.

In other words, yes.

I would agree he made them look better last year.

I think Boro mentioned pressure. Its time they repay the favor and relieve some from Dobbs and the RBs.

The only thing that will make the o line better is experience, recruiting, and having to practice against our wicked d line. Dobbs can help mask problems on the o line and reduce the negative impact of some of their deficiencies, but he can't make them better.

That's his shtick. Every post, in every thread, has to compare Dobbs to Jesus.
If not, you either hate Dobbs or you're racist.

Now anyway, the online showed improvement over time but no, Dobbs doesn't possess a magical power to improve the ol. He is awesome enough to improve production from the offense. But that was despite our bad ol, not because they suddenly became good/decent, overnight.

Not sure if he actually made the OL better, but he sure as hell made the offense better.

You've been reading your own posts too much. :)

Nice work, but it really shows how low the OL recruiting had gone before CBJ got here. Not only missing on a Juco recruit currently, we will see as the players develop that CBJ recruited starting 2014 because of a short recruiting cycle he had taking the job in 2013.

And I can't believe you quoted a long OP.
