Does David Reaves go work for X on Tn's dime?

Just a thought, but do you think X told Reaves to hang around and get fired so Tn would have to pay the difference while X brings him in at a GA's salary at USC? This would be downright dirty, but look who we're talking about.

Nothing X does surprises me anymore. Thank goodness that he is gone.

That makes sense (and smells of Kiffen). However, the story goes that Kiffen didn't even call Reaves (or Lance Thompson, for that matter).

Don't be surprised by this. He did the same thing with Browning last year and everyone thought he was a genius. Cregg will probably do the same thing. They can be used as graduate assistants and be on his staff becaue UT is supplementing their salary with the buyout money.

Well, I never bought that Reaves wasn't in the know. Monte would have told for sure. I won't be surprised to see an announcement that Reaves is joining the USC staff at a salary far below the one he had at UT.

Could should have fired them with cause and made them fight a legal battle? This would've forced X's hand, and he would have eventually hired them as staff, making the situation null and void.

Exactly! I dont fault him for using Reaves as GA on our dime. Sucks big time. With that said, if I were a HC, I would do the same.

If this were to happen, UT would have to be in a position to show grounds for dismissal. You can't just terminate a guy because his brother-in-law skipped town.

Maybe with this move, X does not want Reaves. If I was Reaves, I would seriously be thinking about my future (If he wants to make an upward career move) and not about chasing what appears to be a dead-end-street of a brother-in-law. JMO.

You might be right!

Is it possible to fire someone for cause, even if there is no cause?

Sure, the fired coach would win the lawsuit, but it would take time and probably force Kiffin to go ahead and hire him instead of waiting around for the litigation to clear.

It would be almost as classless as intentionally not taking them with you so your former employer would have to fire them and pay their salaries.

On other threads somewhere on Tuesday afternoon or so, it was said that Reeves was very despondent that day, and that the rumor was that X took the job and didn't even tell him about it. Didn't mention taking him with them to LA either.

it would depend on their buyout and I thought I read on here it wasn't very much. Can't see them picking up and moving to LA for a GA salary. Not to mention the fact they found out Kiffin was leaving by watching ESPN

True. But if that were to happen, you have to figure in lawyer fees court costs and the same amount of money that Reaves is owed due to early termination. Sure it would feel good to make them fight for it. In the end it would just result in more money spent for the same result.

Plus by doing this future coaching prospects could look at UT as being prone to not holding up to the early termination clauses in the contracts. Possibly causing some good coaches to look elsewhere.
