Does Crompton deserve one last shot?

I'm just hoping he plays up to his ability and protects the ball. If Reaves can get him out of the habit of "locking on" to his receivers, he'll be much improved. I also think the run game will be much improved this year. Which should take some pressure off of him to put everything on his shoulders.

To answer the OP's question, if Crompton emerges as the best performing QB from summer practice then yes of course he deserves the shot.

The real question in my mind is if he comes out and performs poorly, how long does this staff stick with him?

Also, if the competition between Crompton and Stephens is close this summer will Kiffin "platoon" the QB's until a clear leader emerges on the field? Many coaches have tried this before and it did not work. Or will Kiffin make a clear choice and stick with that? You know what they say, if you have 2 starting QB's you have none.

If your girlfrend goes out on you it is possible to forgive her.and give her a second chance but if you even suspect something is wrong you nip it in the bud at once the second time. I'm talking whips and chains.

Here is my thing about Crompton....It is all mental with him right?

He has all the physical tools we know that....So if our coaches are worth a damn they should be able to turn this kid around.

Not trying to compare him to Carson Palmer, but the year before he won his Heisman, he was a mediocre QB....In comes Carroll and his staff and they completely change him. Kiffin was on that staff.

Just saying that we could possibly be very decent for us.

You can believe what you want, but Jonathan Crompton has done absolutely nothing to prove that he deserves to be the water boy for UT, let alone the quarterback. Blaming the playcalling, the staff, or any other circumstance is just blowing smoke designed to cloud crappy performance. I saw with my own eyes how he reacted to the coaching staff after a terrible drive and it wasn't pretty. He cannot play football. I think Peyton Manning would agree with me.
:)

he's proved it to this coaching staff and that's all that matters. I suppose we should replace him with one whose attitude was so bad that Fulmer benched him? Please, all this crap about him not being worthy of being on the team is just plain garbage. We pay people big money to make these decisions and they are with these players much more than PM. Plus their jobs depend on getting the right players out there and his doesn't

Seems much of the time he get's caught watching the pass rush and gets hesitant and confused, because the pass rush looked like a team photo. If the O-line plays well he will improve.

:eek:lol:

I hope that you are correct. Although it was early, I didn't see anything overly impressive from JC during the Spring Game. I was more impressed with Coleman. Too bad he bolted.

That's what Kiffin is being paid to decide, not us. It doesn't matter if WE think he does or does not deserve another chance.

freedom of speech my friend. the fourth was yesterday 2. We know we might not have much say so, but so far, we have no black unis! :wink2:

Proof that God is watching over us.

He refuses to let us act like a bunch of Dawgs. :)

I look at it like this.....He had the same tools Cutcliffe minus Ainge if he was as good as advertised he would have molded Crompton to fit that system
That maybe true, the point is Cutcliffe is not Clawson. My point being, I don't think Clawson was given the whole package as Cutcliffe was. Time will tell if Clawson is for real, seems he did ok at Richmond. I know, I know...Richmond is not the SEC.

what do you mean exactly?

Time will tell if Clawson is for real, seems he did ok at Richmond. I know, I know...Richmond is not the SEC.

last year numbers on offense is all you need to look at to see if the clawfense was "for real" or not. he was in over his head in the sec. it may have worked at richmond.....and it may work at bowling green......but it didn't work against the likes of fla, bama, and other conference powers.

i know that the offensive coordinator is only part of the equation for an offense to be successful. there were also other factors as to why we were so inept moving the ball last year, but the playcalling and overall scheme of things was a big chunk of the issue.

Then what are you saying? Clawson had just as much of the package as Cutcliffe did but he didn't have the veteran QB. I know Clawson wasn't Cutcliffe but my point is he had the same talent as Cut did around the QB all he had to do was dumb his playbook down enough to where Crompton and the rest of them could get some confidence. He may workout at BG but he will never workout at any major football program because truth is his offense is a gimmick. At least that's how teams in the SEC made it look

all of this sounds eerily similar to the Meyer discussions when he was hired
