Does anyone understand the holdup on stimulus?

Its true that stimulus is by definition a redistribution of wealth via (allegedly) future tax revenues going to the stimulus recipients.

But that is only part of the story.

First, there is value in short term injection of capital into the hands of consumers so as to keep demand sustained for food, energy, and all sorts of consumer goods. If stimulus is not done, and recession occurs (or deeper recession occurs) then that costs the people who would otherwise complain right now about stimulus perhaps even more.

Second, the people who now might complain about stimulus sure did advocate for it to business interests, such as banks, in the 2007-8 timeframe, and with the same argument in reverse: support us now with what is essentially a loan against future tax revenues so we can keep paying you a salary for your job.

The wisdom of it depends on which side of the ledger you are on at the time, it would appear.

The Kennedy Center appreciates your support. Place that bumper sticker prominently.

Government cheese. There are other programs and organizations that provide support and they do it better than the government.

Don't know but I hope it fails. It won't though because so many of these idiots like paying for votes

LOL you mean like Trump who delayed the first one just to make sure his signature was on the checks and sent out a letter to those that were electronically deposited.

The main reason Trump wanted another to go out by Election Day was to put his name on it again. 😂😂😂

Every company I know is hiring. These are freeloaders looking for the extra $600 a week from Pelosi.

This! My stepson, who has nothing going for him, just got hired full time at The Home Depot. If you are willing to work, you WILL get hired. His options were: 1. Get a job or 2. We're dropping you off at the Army recruiter.

And the main reason it didn't was so it wouldn't.

Thanks Nancy! (And I won't be getting one of those checks anyway, but I will bet a lot of those that voted for SlowJoe would)

But but but Trump. But who the hell doesn’t have direct deposit? Maybe the same one who are too lazy to go vote in person

I am not for these checks in any way. But Bernie did tell us why is want addressed before the election. And it's was solely to make sure Trump didn't get a perceived win.

It would seem those who favor a stipend would want it regardless of the politician's motivation for pushing it.

well, we don't need lockdowns if you assholes would wear a damn mask.
These places that have had lock downs and mask mandates for months are seeing cases in record numbers. So other than your people enjoying their control over people, what's the purpose in either?

I am in the restaurant business in Georgia. One of the lowest wage rates in the company. We start dish washers out at $15 an hour. No experience required. The only job that pays close to minimum wage is host. That's around $10 and is usually filled by 16 year olds.
It really is remarkable the number of people who parrot the “people having to work for minimum wage” nonsense. In Kentucky the minimum wage is 7.25. In my restaurants teenagers with no experience start at $9. Teenagers with experience get $10. Adults start at $12. shift managers start at 14 and hourly assistants between $15-17. And if you’re an adult is making minimum wage, then you need to look in the mirror and ask yourself what the hell you have been doing with your life.

Some are saying the Democrats blocked $1200 now I’m reading the Republicans will “only approve $600” but that doesn’t line up with what all the Republicans are saying.

What’s going on here?
Senators Rob Johnson and Rand Paul are actually holding it up. Bernie Sanders and Republican Senator Josh Hawley go authored legislation that would cut $1,200 checks. Ron Hohnson today on the senate floor wouldn’t allow a vote on it. So now Hawley is threatening to shutdown the government if $1,200 check aren’t included in the stimulus.
