Does anyone think we should wait and see how the season plays out before making a decision?

Does anyone think we should start the season rolling instead of having to always fight our way back out of the holes we dig?

Is any one tired of hearing the same old story every year about the team being fighters and we will find a way to make it there? Is anyone tired of having to rely on 2 other teams choking worse at the end of the year than we did at the beginning to have a chance at the sec champ game? Is anyone asking for more than to be competitive with all of the sec and to bring home an sec champ every now and then? Is anyone asking for more than a token return on the largest recruiting budget in the country? Does anyone see anything any different this weekend?

Yeah I'm tired of it. And for those people that say let the season play out and that it could end up like last year, I don't care. It was nice that we got to play in the SECCG but it still did not redeem Fulmer in my eyes if for no other reason as how we made it to the game(everyone else had to choke so we could back in) and the way we played in that game. It's the same old crap.

Whether anyone here thinks he should be fired is irrelevant. If you don't believe me ask hamilton.
But to answer you question. I think behind closed doors they should basically force him to retire or resign. That would be better than firing him and he deserves that respect.

I don't think he will ever give it up voluntarily, even if they give him an ultimatum. I have heard the same opinion from multiple reporters who have covered the program for years. It's just an opinion, but when push comes to shove I think he would rather poison the well for years to come than walk away. If the team continues to lose games this is going to be ugly. It will be much worse than when Majors left because Phil will fight to stay and there is a significant portion of the fanbase who will stand behind Phil no matter what. Johnny had some support at the end but not nearly as much as Phil currently has.

I have gone back and forth with this regurlary. If and when it does happen, the right hire can change all of it in a heartbeat. If the timing of the decision is made appropriately, and by some miracle recruiting doesn't drop the "new coach" train will fill up quicker than you think.

The problem that I see (I'm sure this plays into your thought process as well) is that these arguments have gone on for so long that one side has to be right and one side has to be wrong.

We may not all agree but I think that once the time comes, for healing we should all just say that Phil deserved a chance and that was afforded.

Change happens.

Phil has to much pull then. It ultimately shouldn't be his decision.

No---he should politely asked to consider stepping down at the end of this season.

Why would someone want to stay and be hated? And then be remembered as the man who ran the program into the ground? Why not "retire" when he could have been remembered for the good he did years ago?

September 24, 2008 12:22 PM ETReport Abuse | QUOTE With all due respect to all of these post. I would imagine most of these folks are young and inexperienced when it comes to knowing what real means. Coach Fulmer is having problems, no doubt, however , he is still coach and he can coach. he is in a slump at the moment but will reemerge to take the lead again. I don't like what I see out there but Coach isn't out there fumbling the ball on the 2 as Foster did, and hardesty did. He didn't throw thw interception in the end zone. So folks, lighten up. Your not the coach. we as fans expect to win every game, but thats not going to happen. Tennessee will come out of this. They are a high class program and I respect Coach Fulmer. Crompton will get better or coach will bench him and see if Stevens or the other kid would do any better. maybe, maybe not. I will go out on the limb here. Vols 31, Auburn 17, Then they will ahve confidence again
