Does anyone feel the same way?

Is anyone else tired of every major sports iste assuming we are going to do poorly this season just so they can have someone fired at the end of the season? Everyone assumes because in 2010 we were young and in 2011 we were injury plagued that we are going to do poorly this season.

I am not sying we are going to be perfect but I believe we will will 8 or 9 games and be 3rd in the SEC East. Every sports site has low expectations for us and high expectations for teams like Florida, Texas A &M and Mizzou. When none of this is warranted. All three are talented teams, but we cannot assume that they will be any above mediocre.

Tennessee has a top 5 quarterback and 3 receivers that 120 FBS teams would use as a number 1 receiver. A team that is maturing altogether and they return the most starters in the SEC.

I realize CDD has not proved he can win big games, but I think we deserve a little more credit than going somewhere between 5-7 and 6-6, with a much softer schedule than the 2011 campaign.

I would give up LSU and Arkansas anyday for Mizzou and Miss. St.

Does anybody else feel that everyone overlooks our talent and assumes that we are going to fail?

I think part of the reason behind this is that we have had poor luck lately.
(1) Had those two "referee" games been differently in 2010, we would have beaten LSU & UNC and would have had an 8 - 5 record.
(2) Had we had less injuries last season, we would have beaten UGA, USC & Ky. Then we would have gone to a decent bowl game. Our regular season record would be 8 - 5 and then you include a potential bowl win and we are 9 - 5.
A season like that in 2011 would have probably ensured that most of the coaching staff would have remainded on board and would not have left.

Once we start getting some good breaks, then the fans will have more confidence.....

8 wins with our weak 2012 schedule is NOT showing improvement. 8 wins this year is equal to 6 wins with last years schedule.

8 wins AND vast improvement. we do play in the best conf. in the nation. you don't think its possible to win 8 games and show VAST improvement i.e. playing toe to toe with three or four of the best teams in the country rather than
getting blown out. we can be a much better team by winning two of our BIG games( bama, ga, usce, fl, ncst, mizzo) and being competitive in the other four. if you dont think so your just too young to know the deference.

8 wins should be very, very easy to do with our schedule.

who are the very, very easy wins bama? ga? mizzu? usce? fl? ncst? improvement isnt always seen in wins and loses.

as tennessee fans we all (well most of us) have high expectations, but there is a deference in high expectations
and reality. winning 5 of our big games would be great, but winning 3-4 should be expected. however winning 2-3 and being competitive in the rest would be an improvement.

Nope. No suprise here. No one has been excited about the program since CLK took over and I don't see a change in excitement level now.

I think only Da'Rick Rogers leaves early and that we're in good enough shape depth wise at WR and QB to not see much of a difference.

If JH is healthy he will put up numbers that will push him to go. No need to push his luck another year.

volbeef88, the more i read your posts the more i think your 12 years old. pretty immature thoughts and wording. i bet a gazzilion dollars Bray doesnt go pro after this season. neither does hunter. rogers will go. thats the only reason he didnt leave for ga st and the only reason for his attitude adjustment. what business keeps you out of east tn? middle school?

eeehhhhh! I'm sorry, your time's run out! What do we have for the losers, judge? Well, for our defendants, it's a life time at exotic Fort Leavenworth! And, for defense counsel Kaffee, that's right, it's a court martial! Yes, Johnny! After falsely accusing a highly decorated Marine officer of conspiracy and perjury, Lieutenant Kaffee will have a long and prosperous career teaching... typewriter maintenance at the Rocco Globbo School for Women! Thank you for playing "Should we or should we not follow the advice of the galactically stupid!"

Spot on!

Really? You're so smart. If you don't think we have a very easy schedule, then you are out of your mind. The only losses that won't be considered a big let down? bammer, USC, UGA and Florida. Now I understand you and your hero and the fellow Defend Dooley No Matter what crew wanna temper expectations. But like his coaching record you will fail.

A 8 win season would be good, a 9 win season would be great. Give Dooley a little of time this is year 2 really if you think about it, look at the mess that was left for him to clean up, other than the Kentucky game done pretty good job.

That's BS! This is his 3rd year no matter how you or Dooley wants to spin it. If this is year 2 then he needs to give the AD $ back. If you take the pay u get credit or blame for the play. Period!

I agree that the this is year two stuff is crap. I also think that firing a coach after two years is beyond stupid.Lets just sit back and let it all play out.

How many games do you think we should win then. We got less talent than the gators dogs and gamecocks, just a little ahead of vandy, just in the east. A 8 or 9 win seaon would be great. Everbody wants the national championship now, it doesnt work that way. So it is year 3 Dooley started from ground zero. I didnt like the hire myself when it went down. He is what we got, lets give him a chance.

I started approaching each football season with caution a few years ago. Gone are the days where I'm confident they're going to even win more games than they lose.

It doesn't really matter if it's year 2 or year 3 to me. The list of excuses is thinning out and things will play out the way they should. The proof is in the pudding. Time for Dooley and company to either step up or step out.

Completely agree. Those of us who actually know college football and actually have common sense knew that it would take 2 or 3 years from the time Dooley took over to when we would actually be competitive in the SEC. It doesnt help that the SEC has gotten even better from top to bottom in our down years. That only added more sand to our hour glass, I mean just in the last 2 years Auburn has won a NC, vandy has become much more competitive, USCe has become one of the top teams in our div. Top to bottom its only gotten tougher. There's a reason Dooley refers to yr 1 as yr 0. He better get results this yr, 8-9 wins should be expected if our guys stay healthy. Maybe 10 if CP turns out to be the next Randy Moss.. One can dream right??

He hasn't proven he can win the little games either...Losing to Kentucky with WR at QB...I honestly can't understand WHY anyone would think we could suck with all those fantastic results over the past two years :whistling:

I enjoyed being a preseason top 10 ranked team with the hope of moving farther up the national rankings.

The SEC is the toughest place to play in the nation and all the other teams keep getting better every year too.

No matter how many returning starters we have this season the facts remain the same and we did have a lousy season last year but writers don't care about how many good players we lost to injuries.

Another fact is that most of our returning starters are still juniors and sophs and we really don't have alot of senior starters returning like most other programs have so that plays a big part of it too.

RELAX folks because it's the offseason and writers have to keep writing about something even when there's very little to write about.

We'll start getting better press and more respect when our Vols start adding up the Wins this season but we're still a year away from being a serious contender to make it to the SEC Championship game like we all want to happen unless we get lots of good luck and it's been many years since we've had lots of good luck.

I still think we just could shock a good team and get a Win that nobody really expects us to get and then CDD will have a really good signiture Win and the confidence of our players will go sky high.

VFL...GBO!!!

Talent and Potential is trumped recent history.
2008 5-7
2009 7-5
2010 6-7
2011 5-7

A 4 year record of 23-26 speaks for itself.

DAMN that still amazes me. 26 losses in 4 seasons and a loss to a sh*ty Ky team. Its been some trying times on Rocky Top.

The magic number for me is to see improvement. Thats all a true fan will ask for, you dont go from where we were at and back to the top in the SEC in two or three years. This is not the WAC ,MAC .

That's a great point. Yes, UT should beat all the creampuffs on the schedule with no problem. I don't think anyone cheering for UT should pound their chest after thumping Ga State. Let's see what they do against UGA, UF, & Bama.

I know the roster was thin last year, especially after Bray went down, but UT should at least be competitive against the top teams in the league.

Will be very competitive this year against the elite maybe beat one or to of them, still a year or to away from becoming elite ourself.

I am more tired of watching the p!ss poor results on the field every year since around 2005 that have led to this lack of respect nationwide. Yes, the Vols are constantly overlooked. But, the program has absolutely earned that distinction.

It will likewise have to start psoting some good results to earn back respect. Let's hope that the upcoming season is a first step in that direction.
