Does anyone feel better about the program under Dooley than you did under Kiffin?

It's sort of like losing your hot sexy wife who would not cook or clean to another man and then having your mother move in to take care of you after she is gone. You don't appreciate your mother until you start getting home cooked meals and you notice the bathroom is always clean.

I have no clue. We will see next Feb with recruiting and the product on the field this year. We are missing the buzz and excitement from a year ago. Thinking about what might have been is really a waste of time.

The last staff did a great job in a year. They recruited well, and our guys were ready to play most games. But I remember last year while Kiffin was running his mouth and in the news, Gene Chizik was at Auburn being slammed by their fan base around this same time. Well he went out and went 8-5 and signed a top 5 class this year. You don't have to have flash to be good, Kiffin just told us that we did and alot of people believed it.

It is fun getting to hear our head coach making fun of other head coaches a la Spurrier in the 90's, but I'll take results on the field being done the right way with a mute for a head coach anyday.

So much of last year's exitement was artificial and, basically, manufactured by a blow hard. Slow, steady, and with integrity just might make the mark. Give him his due time. I like Dooley for the good appearance he makes. And, he didn't have to bring his dear ole dad in order to get the job.

I don't really "feel" anything at this point. Why discuss "feelings" based on pretty much nothing?

There are pluses and minuses for both staffs. The current staff hasn't had a chance to prove anything yet. The last staff looked to be going in the right direction but the best grade they can receive is an "incomplete". Recruiting buzz is great and all but a 7-6 record with a wilted effort in the bowl game doesn't "prove" much.

The only thing I might "feel" better about is that Dooley seems to be a guy with character who is trying to prove it rather than sell it.

Huh???? You mean the two times the turtle came out of his shell??? Recruiting is what the college game is all about and this fella ain't got a clue and before you tell me he held this last class together remember the EE could not change school's if they wanted to so last years top ten class is Kiffins. We are in for a rough two years before the axe falls. No recruits, looking at a bunch of Tennessee High School players and not one single word from the current team that is positive is all I need to know.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Also in case you weren't watching, the Defense took about 3 steps in the wrong direction with the GREAT MONTE AND ED O last year.

You're right, we were just stacked 3 deep with talent that Monte and O couldn't coach.

Maybe CDD is going to let his talking be done on the field by the players instead of talking a bunch of trash before the season starts. Then when our rivals that CLK talked trash about beat us it made us look that much better. I say lets give Dooley atleast two seasons to show us what he can do with the resources we have at Tenn.

It's football man, people get hurt. People make more excuses for Lane and Co than I have ever seen.

I dont see anyone cutting Dooley any slack because half his team was hurt last year.

This time one year ago we were in the midst of getting commitments from David Oku and Bryce Brown and the town was buzzing about football, one year later Dooley has done nothing at all to generate any buzz about football. In fact it’s almost as if he’s trying to make fans forget about him.

This isn't a legitimate reason imo.
But to the OP. I feel more comfortable that they aren't gonna get in trouble. Wins/losses and the resurgance of UT ; not so much.

it's not an excuse it's reality. The D got worse because of the injuries and lack of real depth

I agree with the second part on due time. Any new coach deserves that. But your first sentence is just silly.

Honestly, It's hard to say how I feel this year versus last. There's definitely a lot less excitement in the air this year versus last....

Ill say this, I've stopped telling me Bama and Fla friends that they better watch out. Not sure if that's me taking on the personality of our new coach. (Yes, Dan Patrick, I call UT MY TEAM) Or me coming to grips with the reality that we don't have an Allstar cast anymore.

First part, way off. It was his first year with limited talent. Great staff and recruiting class.

Second part, you're wrong. People who cut Lane a break in his first year should cut Dooley a break for the same reasons. First year and talent level getting better but still not there. Lane had the talent level and program headed in the right direction before he took the midnight bus out of town. Doesn't change the fact things were improving. Dooley now gets the same grace period.
