Does anyone else think Crompton will do ok this year?

Yes, I think the Cromton we see this year will be like night and day. More of the liking of the way he looked against LSU in 06

If that is the case we get 8-9 maybe 10 wins!!

He was awesome in that game. Just can't see how he was that bad last year:banghead2:

This might be a stretch, but remember Eric Ainge 2005?... Opening day 2006 under new OC he looks like Dan Marino and tears Cal apart. Drastic changes are possible.

Yes, but Cutty was the main force in that transformation...

(welcome to the boards!)

Crompton will have a better year with a fresh start over last year. The hiring of Clawson was the biggest mistake ever made at UT. Tennessee fans have a short memory. The OL two years ago was the best in the nation because of a simple zone blocking scheme and a Offensive Coordinator preparing a quarterback mentally and playing to a players strength instead of trying to make an option quarterback out of a pro style quarterback. Tennessee will surprise people this year.

Yes, the offense last year had I believe 10 returning starters. Really they should have been able to train a monkey to handoff and win 7 games. I don't blame the qb on how horrible he played; everyone played horrible, he simply was the one everyone was watching.

But Erik was the best quarterback in UT history and is destined for a NFL Hall of Fame career. If you don't believe it, just ask Walt or read his post.

Remembering when Erik was a sophmore under Randy Sanders and Junior year under Cut. A new coach makes a world of difference in a quarterback. Lane Kiffin has a Cut track record with quarterbacks. I expect the 5* JC to show back up this year. I do know for a fact that PF was expecting great things from JC after Erik's Senior year. Phil told me he expected to win it all in 08 then Cut left and Clawson walk in and screwed it all up. Phillip now regrets the hiring of Clawson and feels bad for Crompton. Crompton has one year to prove his recruitment was not a fluke and I for one believe he will surprise everyone.

Fail. It was ALL Robert Meachum that made JC look good. Meachum made the catches..if you remember watching the game some were underthrown and overthrown and meachum had to stop turn around or go back to the ball and it was a jumping contest at that point

I suppose you're in favor of taking away all the passing yds for Ainge vs Cal since that was all RM too?

Here's a comparison of their performances just for a true measure:

Erik Ainge 2006 vs. Cal
C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
11/18 291 16.2 4 1

Jonathan Crompton 2006 vs. LSU
C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT
11/24 183 7.6 2 1

crompton showed flashes in 06, hopefully the O can be simplified (which it will compared to the clawfense) and crompton can thrive, but the key will be O line, cuz if we can't run the ball jc will be to shaken to even drop back

Kiffin and Chaney have a great track record working with QB’s. I don’t look for them to ask the QB to do too much. They will need to manage the game and not turn the ball over. Look for the backs and TE to make a bunch of catches and press downfield 4 to 5 times a game. Crompton can do that so yes he should have a much better year.

What about this 2006 game outside of a hail mary TD pass gives anyone the idea Crompton had a great game?I think he WILL do OK..that equates to a 7 or 8 win season if he doesnt turn it over 10 times on personal stupid fumbles and INTs right to a defender..

 :eek:hmy: Yes Meachum caught the ball but they were some long balls thrown and some good hard hitting runs too. JC was 50/50 with Meach except for one GREAT catch by Meach. I miss him...:cray:

Give JC some credit

GO VOLS!!!

To be fair, those stats include Ainge's one-legged throws as well.

i was wondering why everyone thought jc did so well in the lsu game

besides trucking that guy and the meachem pass he didnt really seem extra special or anything. the next game against arkansas he played terrible, but so did everyone else (i remember ark's corner houston having his way with meachem). jc looked servicable in the orange and white game though only time will tell i guess :dunno:

The offensive system is a better fit for Crompton, so I see him doing much better. I don't expect him to have one of the all time great seasons though. He will do his job adequately but not exceptionally.

Is there any chance that Stephens starts over Crompton? Either way with Cromton or Stephens I think this offense will help them both.

hahaha are you really serious? crompton will play no better this year than last. the only reason he has the starting spot is to leave room for recruiting. everyone blamed clawson for jc idiocracy, and everyone here hated him last year and totally back him this year. you guys are ridiculous:banghead2:
