no doubt it's a favor for the fans and regional TV ratings, but we got jobbed. In saying that keeping us home bascially. In away i'd say its good. But we drew the toughest bracket possible.
I don't know i just hope we play some defense to shut up the naysayers. I'am tired of hearing about how butler or louisville will beat us.
Also their lovefest with carolina is sickening.
Even though the committee indeed announced that UNC was their #1 overall, I do not buy it when looking at the regions. UNC probably has the toughest region of any of the #1 seeds. The only "easy" part is they are playing the whole thing in the state of North Carolina.no doubt it's a favor for the fans and regional TV ratings, but we got jobbed.
I'm not upset with the fact that it's UNC, as much as I am the open point that they're the number 1 overall seed implies that we're the overall 8th seed. That's highway robbery.
the West is pretty handily the weakest bracket to me. G'town is probably being viewed by the committee as the toughest 2 seed. Wisconsin and Louisville were clearly the class of the 3s. Xavier can't play with either of those teams.Even though the committee indeed announced that UNC was their #1 overall, I do not buy it when looking at the regions. Personally, I would say that KU has the easiest region. G'Town is up there with Duke as the weakest #2 in the bracket and Wisconsin and Vandy are a pretty weak #3 and #4, respectively.
I do not believe that this committee took any second weekend implications into their thought process of laying out the field.
I believe that Duke and UNC actually benefit by not sharing the Raleigh pod. If they did, you would have UNC fans avidly cheering against Duke and vice versa. I am quite surprised the K-State ended up in the Omaha pod for that very reason. To paraphrase Steve Hamer last night... it's more about the name on the front of the jerseys at this time of the year. I have a hard time believing they thought they were doing us a favor when you look at some of the other seeds (i.e. Duke). Hopefully UT will shove it down their throats.
I think a two seed is fair. What i don't agree with is being put in the same region with the number one overall. Most years that would mean were the worst two seed.I believe that Duke and UNC actually benefit by not sharing the Raleigh pod. It has little to do with the name on the front of the jerseys. UT lost to Arkansas while UNC, KU, and UCLA were winning their conference tournaments. If the selection committee is seeding by how good a shot each team has at winning it all, then playing two crappy games in a tournament setting certainly reflects very poorly on UT, in that category.

surely your not implying that the two UNC debacles against two mediocre teams, neither of which could be Arky, somehow supported a 1 seed. They played terribly in both games.I believe that Duke and UNC actually benefit by not sharing the Raleigh pod. If they did, you would have UNC fans avidly cheering against Duke and vice versa. I stated earlier, or in another thread, that I personally do not see UNC as the #1 overall seed. So, I really do believe UNC was penalized (although the committee will stick to their guns that they are the #1 overall) for shoddy play in the ACC Tournament.surely your not implying that the two UNC debacles against two mediocre teams, neither of which could be Arky, somehow supported a 1 seed. but you said we got our seeding of 2 based upon the committee's view of our likelihood of winning it all and that said view was cemented by our shoddy play in the SECT. Well UNC played every bit as poorly against two substantially worse opponents, but weren't downgraded. I understand that they won, but a buzzer beater against a non-tourney VaTech team was a downright pathetic effort. Our Arky game was better, even in a loss.I stated earlier, or in another thread, that I personally do not see UNC as the #1 overall seed. The committee had nothing to do with this. They were given an order from on high (the NCAA) that the priority was to keep the top seeds as close to home as possible (see Duke in DC for their first and second round games) and that the higher ranked teams should be kept closest to home. Balancing the bracket is secondary to keeping teams close to home. As a result you have the top 1 and the top 2 in the same bracket. It's a joke and everybody on the committee knows it, but they have to operate under that mandate.

There have been years, especially pre Pearl, when Tennessee was hoping against hope to just get in the Big Dance. Now we're talking about a possible #1 seed before the selection committee publicizes the bracket. I say take our spot and kick ass against whoever gets put on the floor with the guys. There aren't any paths to the Final Four paved with cupcakes.
