Does anybody besides us mountain people eat blackeyed peas, hog jowl and collard greens on New Year's Day?

I told some people from Michigan I worked with about my family's traditional NYD meal and they thought we were crazy. In fact they'd never heard of jowls and collards.

I love a big mess o' greens.

No, I should not be living in Portland f***ing Oregon after saying that.

Especially because everybody in my neighborhood is a New England transplant.

I've heard collard and turnip. I've even heard cabbage.

My family is from Western PA where the traditional dish is pork and sauerkraut.

I've heard of that, my grandma fixed it black eyed peas every year, then my mom's husband did the hog jowls one year to tease me (doesn't taste like bacon lol).

Im from South Louisiana and we always did black eye peas and cabbage. I never liked either! LOL
