Does a 7-9 SEC record get us a NCAA bid?

Last weeks ESPN Bracketology had us as an 11 seed before losing to Florida.. I think we're going to wind up in a situation where we have to win the SEC tourney to get in. Anyone heard on when Lofton may be back? We can't afford to lose many more...

The Vols have not lost a home game yet this season. They've still got 5 SEC games left at home. The 3 remaining SEC road games are all winnable. Lofton returns at almost 100% against LSU at home. I would not be surprised to see the Vols finish the final 8 games in the SEC with a 6-2 record. That would put them at 9-7 in the conference and 21-10 overall heading into the SEC tournament.

21-12, if the Vols go 8-8.... they won't finish less than 50% in the SEC.
that's a mighty bold statement considering they still have to play FL, KY, LSU, Bama..........being at home a big advantage.....but still a bold statement.

You have to remember that without Lofton we lost 3 games on the road, two to the two best teams in the SEC, at indisputably the two hardest venues in the conference. It's not as though we lost some games that were games we should have won. Ole Miss maybe, but it was the first game without Lofton- I think we probably would have won that game the way we are playing now without him.

UT's RPI is going to help them a lot, but they still need to hold on and win most their upcoming home games. 18-19 wins should be good enough if one of those is against UF, UK, or maybe LSU.

Slick Rick says TN is definitely in the NCAA with a 7-9 conference record. The SEC is the elite this season.

i would say Auburn and Ole Miss were two games we probably should have won....maybe Vandy too, at the time they played anyway. Vandy looks to be much better now than many thought early on.

either way, minus FL, the SEC has several teams that are kind of in the same boat. anyone can beat anyone on any given night...and that's not a bad thing for the league.

tn is perfectly capable of winning everygame on their schedule, except FL.....and i woudn't be shocked if they beat them once this year. they are equally capable of losing to FL, KY, Vandy, LSU and Bama also.....

I agree that we should have beaten those teams too. I was just saying that without Lofton we lost games that were not so winnable, we didn't do anything special, but we also didn't shoot ourselves in the foot either.

I think they would have to close the stock exchange the next day because everyone would be in a coma from the shock. Except, evidently, a handful of UT faithful.

 gotcha......but we lost those games with Lofton.

having lofton back helps, and helps a lot, but it doesn't necessarily automatically translate in to a W just because he steps on the floor.

but being at home the next three games, getting him back, should be somewhat fresh....hopefully it will spell good things for us.:crossfingers:

like i said, i've already said that we are capable of beating everyone left on our schedule except FL.

but really, given the schedule we've played against the opponents we've played, i dont' think it would be a shock to the system if TN beat FL in knoxville. i don't necessarily think it will happen....

i'll put it this way......i was shocked NCSU beat UNC. I was shocked FSU beat Duke at Duke.

i won't be shocked one bit if TN beats FL in knoxville. it's not like we haven't done it before.:p

So now Tennessee is incapable of beating Florida on our home floor? I'm not going to make any predictions yet since that game is so far away but "closing the stock exchange" is quite an overreaction.

your humility has generally been pretty popular here and you normally remain pretty objective, but you've lost all sense of reality here and have become an arrogant pr*ck of late. Keep it up, I like it.

Now, let me quote Vol In AZ here: "Next year, UF's gonna suck" and tell you that what one reaps one also sews.

I wasn't shocked that FSU beat Duke. Duke this year is not that good (relative to their normal status, that is). FSU had come close the last few years and thanks to three missed Duke shots in the last 6 seconds, hung on to finally get the W.

As to a UT win over Florida, okay, okay, not shocked. But it would be a major upset.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. But I've got to give you guys something to join forces against. Might as well be me, since it would seem that there is no point in your trying to assail the Gators, themselves.

I don't think there is anything un-objective about saying that Florida ought to whallop Tennessee again here shortly. Most neutral observers (i.e. not Florida fans and not UT fans) would expect Florida to crush UT again, even though that game is at UT.

Now, if you ask me, you've got a shot. I honestly think the worst thing your home crowd can do is taunt Noah. I just know that is what's going to happen. And I think it will be your team that pays for your insolence.

As far as me being an arrogant pr**k, don't go knockin' my hobbies.

upset, yes, agree 100%.......and i used the FSU/Duke game because FSU had never, NEVER, beaten Duke at Cameron.....so that is a shock, it's still duke. TN has been competitive with fl recently....so it takes the sting out of an upset.........

I'll be sure to pass along your suggestion to the students that they should be really quiet during the game.

If you are implying that Noah is going to somehow play better after being taunted then I would be concerned if I were you since that would mean he is not giving 100%. :)

Maybe if we get him really fired up he'll blow a kiss to the cheerleaders like he did against UCLA.

Hey, Freak, can you get some of the students to put on big black wigs pulled into a pony-tail, and then black out their front teeth? That would be a nice welcome for Noah.

They could wear shirts that say "Vive le C.J.!"

Yeah, it would be sweet if you could screen some T-shirts up with a beret on C.J. Watson's head, a la Che Guevara, with the aforementioned caption.

Or hell, just pilfer that AP shot of Noah right when he received the "People's Elbow" from Mr. Watson.

Either way, that should work nicely.

Crowd participation: Just do whatever you guys think is right. Noah will react how he reacts.

As a Gator fan, I'm not real worried about it.

I just want our fans to give back as good as they got from the crown down in Gainesville. Between the cheers of:

"Sweat-y Bruce"
"Just like football"
and
"Bridgette's better"

and the photos of Bridgette Bradshaw, I think we owe the Gators a nice response. Turnabout is fair play, of course. Plus, it's good for the rivalry.
