Doeren offered Tennessee job (according to football scoop)

I hate to say it, but this botched coaching search has made me jaded towards Tennessee football. Never though that I would feel this way but all that I can do is laugh.

Of course...at this point you expect the worse. How can you not after a decade of disappointment from this administration.

Imagine for a moment believing that Greg Schiano can consistently beat Kirby Smart and Dan Mullen in your division, and your rival Nick Saban. Then imagine thinking Dave Doeren can. This is Tennessee’s administration at the moment.

By the numbers, if TN goes with Doeren they fired a coach with an overall record of 34-27 and conference record of 14-24 for a coach with an overall record at NC St. of 33-30 and a conference record of 14-24.

If Tennessee hires Dave Doeren they are resorting to someone who’s less accomplished as a Power 5 coach than the guy they just ran off. Butch Jones: 14-24 SEC. Two Top 25 teams. Doeren: 15–25 ACC. One Top 25 team (as of today)

Why hasn't UT spoken with Dino Babers? Kevin Sumlin? Tee Martin? Willie Taggert? All are better than Dave Doeren. Have they even interviewed an African American coach?

This about sums it up:

The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day;
the score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play.
And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same,
a sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
they thought, if only Casey could get but a whack at that –
they'd put up even money, now, with Casey at the bat.

But Flynn preceded Casey, as did also Jimmy Blake,
and the former was a lulu and the latter was a cake,
so upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,
for there seemed but little chance of Casey's getting to the bat.

But Flynn let drive a single, to the wonderment of all,
and Blake, the much despised, tore the cover off the ball;
and when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,
there was Jimmy safe at second and Flynn a-hugging third.

Then from five thousand throats and more there rose a lusty yell;
it rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;
it knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,
for Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.

There was ease in Casey's manner as he stepped into his place;
there was pride in Casey's bearing and a smile on Casey's face.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat,
no stranger in the crowd could doubt 'twas Casey at the bat.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;
five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt.
Then while the writhing pitcher ground the ball into his hip,
defiance gleamed in Casey's eye, a sneer curled Casey's lip.

And now the leather-covered sphere came hurtling through the air,
and Casey stood a-watching it in haughty grandeur there.
Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped—
"That ain't my style," said Casey. "Strike one," the umpire said.

From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,
like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore.
"Kill him! Kill the umpire!" shouted someone on the stand;
and it's likely they'd have killed him had not Casey raised his hand.

With a smile of Christian charity great Casey's visage shone;
he stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;
he signaled to the pitcher, and once more the spheroid flew;
but Casey still ignored it, and the umpire said: "Strike two."

"Fraud!" cried the maddened thousands, and echo answered fraud;
but one scornful look from Casey and the audience was awed.
They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,
and they knew that Casey wouldn't let that ball go by again.

The sneer is gone from Casey's lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;
he pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate.
And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
and now the air is shattered by the force of Casey's blow.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
the band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
and somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
but there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

So now Doeren is deciding between NC State and TN? Really? Man, the glory days of TN are no where to be seen. This is a no brainer but I hope he says no. I would love to have Kevin Sumlin!

If they hire Doreen, I'm just done.

This smacks of desperation. It's like going to New York to see Hamilton, finding out the guy you were supposed to buy tickets from on Craigslist decided to keep them. Checking all of the other good shows and finding that they are sold out, and then instead of just going to the bar or doing something else, you freak out feeling like you have to see SOMETHING and end up throwing Hamilton money at tickets for Stomp.

Just stop. Take a step back. Reevaluate. Nobody is attracted to desperation, and when you want something real bad, that's typically how you get it, real bad.

Yet other media wants to proclaim that the fanbase doesn't "deserve" anyone good for our outcry regarding this sabotage.

Some coach will take advantage of the resources we have in vol country, one day. But not until they fire some management. We are the Cleveland Browns of the SEC.

I've been against giving someone his first HC job up to this point, but if we're down to HC's with a .5 overall record and losing record in conference after 5 years, then bring on the newbies. At least we don't know what they're capable of.

I hope Doeren understands that he will walk in on day 1 to fan base that holds him in the same contempt that they did Jones the day he walked out. It's not his fault, but it's true.

I would so much rather have Tee. Blow it up and start over from scratch!

I don't think Tee is ready, but at the is point I'd rather take a chance on an up and coming coach who has potential like Tee does over well established mediocrity like Doeren.

Unless it proves for him to be easier to win in the SEC than it was in the ACC this potential hire makes zero sense.

Currie's ability to hire a coach....
