Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com created an interesting piece Monday when he took the temperature of the job security of college football coaches throughout the country, constructing a guide to the feel of coaches' seats.

In the SEC, the pressure is always on, but only three coaches -- Mark Richt, Houston Nutt and Derek Dooley -- made Dodd's "On the bubble -- you never know" category. Nick Saban, Gene Chizik, Will Muschamp, Dan Mullen and Steve Spurrier had the most job security, making his "Don't even think about it -- can't happen."

Derek Dooley, Tennessee: 3.0
Years: 2
Record: 6-7
My take: After a slow start to last season, the Vols got on a roll with four straight wins to end the regular season. To get Tennessee back to its old ways, Dooley has to become more competitive in recruiting.

There has to be improvement this year period, it's that simple, if not Dodd has a good point.

I look at it this way, Coach Dooley was on the hot seat from day one. I say this because he walked into an angry situation at Tennessee. Now, I don't believe he should be fired if he doesn't make it to the SECCG this year, but he won't be sitting comfortably until he gets there and wins it. Even after that, that seat won't stay cool for long.

Thats just crazy.

Maybe if he has a 5-6 win season and signs a sub-par recruiting class, then he's probably on the hot seat for next season.

Agree.

Coach Dooley's seat isnt hot but without some improvement he'll need some fire-retard britches next year.

Dont think he'll need it tho.

It's a program that needs some momentum building wins this year. Things don't run smoothly on name recognition alone anymore, it's a what have you done for me lately society fair or not.

He knew what he was getting into when he accepted the job. Our expectations is why he accepted the job.

Dodd's 5 part plan:

1) Say something stupid: check
2) Have rexvol post it on volnation: check
3) Get a fan base/message board all worked up: check
4) Have them repeat his name and visit his website: check
5) Make himself relevant by doing so: check

Seems like he's accomplished his goal for the day.

I'd put him on the "If this season doesn't go so well he'll be on the hot seat next year" hot seat.

Ditto...there's no way Dooley is on the hot seat this year. Chris Low does make a good point that Dooley does need to recruit better, but that will come along with winning.
