Dobbs worked with the 1s today!

Nobody has ever said Dobbs is the second coming of anything, just that given the choice between him and Peterman, based on the only evidence we have of how they actually perform in games, that he's the much better choice to get us 3 more wins should Worley not be able to go. At the end of the day, I want the Vols to win and to see the qb that performs better in actual games.....that appears to be Dobbs. If Peterman gets in and somehow does the greatest 180 in the history of college football and leads UT to a win at some point this year I'll be thrilled and be pulling for the kid. Until that happens however, based on what I've seen of him to this point, I'll be hoping like hell they choose to put Dobbs in first.

Ok exactly what has Dobbs done that makes you think he is better than Peterman?...In the games Dobbs played in lasy year he didn't get his first td pass until the kentucky game and that was an int that was taken away by the UT receiver...He did absolutely nothing tat gives me any confidence in winning any of the remaining games...Doesn't matter unless peterman and worley are both hurt he won't play so all this talk is for nothing.

How can he prove anything when some of these people's minds are made up? And why isn't Dobbs judged nearly as harshly?

I'm sure Peterman would love to play a whole game against a suck team like UK last year.

These arguments against Peterman are circular.

Really if either of these qbs sees quality time on the field this year we are going to be in trouble. Worley may not be playing great but he's the best we got

Dobbs did not look good when I've seen him on the field, IMO. But at this point I'm willing to try something. I think Worley needs a break for a week. Peterman was actually serviceable in the utc game. If Dobbs has to play the whole game vs Bama, I think the game gets ugly. He can't throw and Bama will stack the box so he won't be able to run. Peterman has a strong arm and looked a step quicker than Worley. Now whether or not he is mentally ready is another question. So, it's crap against the wall. Damned if Ya do, damned if ya don't.

What makes you say this?

It's really strange that I agree with you Mimi.
I may need to reevaluate

Not arguing your point, just your logic.

By the same logic, he threw his first TD against Mizzou, and Josh Smith dropped it.

My exact thoughts.

Peterman played a lousy Florida team last year and looked lost.
Dobbs played the national runner-ups, Auburn, and didn't look anywhere near as incompetent.

Yes, after he got a half of garbage time against Alabama and a whole game against Mizzou where he looked average at best.

Florida wasn't nearly as lousy when we played them as they ended up, and I hope you seriously aren't comparing Peterman's first snaps against UF with Dobbs' snaps against AU that came after he had 6 quarters of play.

I haven't went back and watched games from last year, but I recall my thinking was Dobbs was a heaver not a passer. He could escape the pocket some. I just recall saying to myself last year that he is not the answer to the question. But, heck, I'm a vol fan. If he goes in, I'll cheer just as loudly. I just think that if Worley don't play, I can picture peterman going off in one of those career moments better than I can see Dobbs doing the same.

I'm sorry, but which one of Jones' conferences didn't involve a heavy use of coach speak?

Keep on reading only the things that support what you want to hear. You need hope. I get it. The rest of us kept up with reports that came out of the camp, that both Worley and Dobbs went to. They used words like "underwhelming". All summer we read about accuracy problems. Before the opener it was a 2 man battle between Peterman and Worley. None of these things says Dobbs is the guy.

You're a fan of Dobbs for some reason, and that's cool. But those of us who don't have a preference and just want the best guy on the field think that CBJ believes it's Peterman over Dobbs.

I'm not arguing that Peterman is better. I don't think any of our qbs are up to the SEC standard.
I'm arguing that our coach thinks Peterman is better.

Okay, I respect your opinion that Peterman is the better QB.

It seems the main point of argument about the two is that if you can't write Dobbs of yet, you can't write off Peterman, because Dobbs has played more, which is true.

However, myself, along with a few other people, think that Peterman's two performances in big time situations were telling enough. It's just, I don't think I've witnessed that terrible of a first time starting performance by any QB.

Also, it's fine if you think Dobbs performance last year is indicative of how good of a QB he is. He's just looked better than Peterman in game IMO.

Why do I continue this nonsense. At the end of the day, Butch says Peterman before Dobbs. If he's fine with that, VolNation needs to be fine with that.

When DID he say that?...hard to be fine with something that hasn't or will not happen...as it were...or is it wasn't.

They should play Benny Hill music when Peterman is in the game. Was that his 3rd or 4th career fumble against Ole Miss? Does he even have 50 career snaps? It's almost unbelievable. I feel bad for the guy. Like, I honestly pity him.

I just cannot understand why people are pumping Peterman who has been flat out terrible in every game he's been in, (he gets a pass for Florida last year due to hand injury), where they hate Dobbs and think he's not any good just because he didn't light the world on fire as a freshman.

I don't know what you're reading, but I'm not "pumping" Peterman. I'm saying the opposite, that people have made up their minds on Peterman on a very small body of work, but are pumping Dobbs even though he was less than imprssive last year and he's had WAY more snaps and time to adjust compared to Peterman.

Put it another way even those who haven't given up on Peterman aren't saying play him instead of Worley, but there are some saying play Dobbs instead of Worley "cuz he can run".

Unless Peterman is waiting to step into a phone booth and then step out in Superman's cape, then Dobbs might be our only hope next year.
