Dobbs vs Butch

I will say that I agree teams will stack the box until proven otherwise... May be important for Dobbs to throw a lot during these first three games to show the SEC he has improved and can throw... this will make DC's think twice.

He has a cannon and I'm not saying dobbs will not be great I'm saying if we are run only and a one trick pony we gotta go with another horse bc we are great and less will not be accepted

I am not sure how old you are but isn't bedtime calling. This is insane, you have a QB that by any standards is top notch. He makes plays whether it is with his feet or arm. Do you remember the sideline tightrope for a td last year? Your assumptions about Dormady are also flawed. How many times in mop up has he been sacked? Cannon for an arm may or may not be true, hasn't happened in a game. If we are forced to go to the bench for a QB this season is in trouble.

Only way Dobbs is getting benched is if he gets injured. He got us this far and they're going to ride it out with him.

Although the OP is a hypothetical, to write it off as non-sense is a bit dismissive. With my eternal optimism in our team, the hope is that Dobbs and the entire offense have improved. However, there is a chance that the passing ability we've seen the last three years has peaked. If, hypothetically, we can't complete the passes to keep drives alive and loosen the run defense, some of you will be the first ones yelling for the backups.

Nah, let them think he can't throw.

Sacked 3 times; pretty much the same completion percentage w/ the 3's and 4's in mop up duty.

While your last statement could be true, I'd like to see QD take meaningful snaps w/ the 1's to make an accurate / honest assessment.

Nevertheless, I trust Dobbs will be better throwing this year and stays healthy to lead our VOLS to victory.

Yes, I also believe JG will probably end up 3rd on the depth chart, but the post I responded to stated that if Dobbs goes down the job will be Guarantano's. Dormady will be first option, and deservedly so.

Yeah...I expanded on that...also said Dormady would get first shot. But with the caveat of Dobbs being seriously injured, all factors are in play. Really believe first and preferred option is Guarantano redshirts. Since he's missed the last half of his last two high school seasons, a year of training would be a benefit. Without Dobbs, they adjust and don't look behind. Gotta wonder how Sheriron is progressing from that Spring injury. Always heard good buzz from practices and whatnot...it's been silent about him.

This is the funniest thread in awhile on VN.

More disturbing. Every year we do hypotheticals on Dobbs getting injured. He's been the opposite of injury prone...and now he has built up extra muscle. I participated because the absolutes in the succession plan are ridiculous. Losing Dobbs trashes our expected season.

This thread is like a bad dream except it doesn't go away. On the positive side I did get quite a few laughs out of it.

On a serious note, think about what you're saying for a minute. What coach in his right mind is going to pull a veteran qb with the game on the line just to see how good his backup is with pressure on him?

that's not what I'm saying...he did ok closing games out, even with some guys that were way down the depth chart.

QD appears to have a very good arm, but I'm going wait to make a valid assessment until he's played some meaningful snaps w/ the 1's...instead of professing he's either too slow, immobile....or the best thing since sliced bread.

This is not a good question. It is a delusional one based off one of two phychogical factors.

You either have an unfounded disdain for Dobbs

Or

An unfounded approval of Dormady

And you are looking to validate either.

The guy who responded to your legitimate question is a total douche. I would say Butch wouldn't lose more than two games before pulling the plug on Dobbs if Dobbs' inaccuracy were clearly causing us to lose. Butch fired his OC, his DC, and his strength coach. I don't think it would be any different with Dobbs. Dobbs will be given a long leash, but it's not infinitely long. There are adjustments you can make to help an inaccurate quarterback. Jones will exhaust his options before making the switch to QD or JG IMO.

Your question is not good because dormady hasn't done anything to suggest he is a better passer than dobbs. His ability reminds me of Worley.

Wrong. Obviously, you have not seen Dormady throw. He's much more accurate than Dobbs and can throw it way downfield.

If Dobbs can't pass, Dormandy can't run, and Sherizon can't do poise, and Guantanamo has no pocket presents, then will Jones bring in Jancek or not?

Dormady CAN run, however, he is not as fast as Dobbs is running, but then, who is? Dormady can make plays with his feet but he is more a pocket passer but he puts it where the receivers can make a play. Unfortunately he hasn't gotten much playing time. When you're doing mop up duty they're usually not trying to score and running the clock down.

Ok this prob won't help but I like to help whenever I can so I'll try;

TRANSLATION: IF for some strange reason, say...vs Florida, Dobbs is ineffective passing the ball and it's mid 3rd quarter and we are down 17pts or more and know with Dobbs in the game that we will lose the game, do you guys think Butch will try Dormady?

My answer: I think Butch will try him or JG or even SJ. Whatever it takes and whoever he has to throw in the game to try and win cause its plain to see Butch is putting everything he has into 2016 to win and win big so if he thinks we will lose any game with Dobbs as QB then yes IMO, he will try a diff QB.

BUT we have no clue that Dormady can stretch the field any better than Dobbs. We will have to see more live game reps against 1st string Defenses to know.

I agree with you. Dormady can stretch the field, again though, he hasn't had much playing time against the better Ds.

Sorry, no way Dormady sees significant playing time, unless Dobbs gets injured or the season is a bust halfway through
