I liked seeing Dobbs go under center more than usual for the outback bowl and use of the tight-end shift to H-back as a lead blocker. I'm not a big believer in the shotgun on 3rd and 1.

I hope 2016 brings more Hurd and Kamara in the backfield at the same time for the triple threat. This past season when they were in the backfield together, Kamara would usually shift out.

Thoughts?

Well a lot of people, Boosters, VFLs, ect... want Jalen behind a full back. Jones said that those formations were to simulate a full back. When I saw him lined up that far back I just knew something good would happen. His highchool highlights show what he would be like with a full back. MONSTER.

This was something Jones and DeBord put in for the bowl game, as were the two big plays to Alex Ellis. Great game prep by the staff.

How many times did Dobbs line up under center in the bowl game? I only remember one time.

I totally agree. It was easily our most successful formation.

Should note that Northwestern said that it totally caught them off guard. Props to Debord. I think he got better as the season went on.

Loved it, but especially loved that Debord saw something on film and installed that as a way to exploit Northwestern defense. I will get blasted but he is better coordinator than most credit him for. He has had some solid plans this year and done a nice job at exploiting defenses with some new wrinkles.

People who complain about Debord don't know much about football. He did an excellent job this year.

agreed. I have said on here before that I wasn't a fan of the hire but I have seen that he has been far better than I expected and gets too much flack. I am being completely honest when I say that since I have been following UT football (early 80's), Cutcliffe is about the only OC that I have seen who hasn't gotten a ton of criticism. Even Fulmer got his share as I recall, of course it was vented in different ways back then before internet.

I noticed in the bowl game that Dobbs looked solid and comfortable stepping up into the pocket and the OL did a great job providing pocket protection I thought. Much improvement during the year. He needs to improve on his passing accuracy.

How great would it be to see Dobbs on a bootleg? Seems that Dobbs is more comfortable rolling instead of standing straight up in the pocket.I think could possible open up some good qb runs off play-action.

Hurd hitting holes at full speed behind a fullback is the worst thing that could happen to rest of the SEC next year. Gotta keep this one going and expand upon it next season.

People used to roast Cuttcliffe for Dink and Dunk play calling. He wasn't really respected until he was gone.

OC is probably the most criticized coach on almost every staff in America.

Did anybody happen to see Bammer run their "jumbo" short yardage play against MSU? Two 300+ lbs of DLs used as lead blockers for Henry. It would bother me not to see KMac & Shy lead block for our 240+ lb running back in a short yardage play against the Tide or Gators next year.

yeah, but I think Cut (especially his second stint) got benefit of doubt more. Now that you mention it, I do remember after BCS title game people saying we would have lost with Cut. Haha

Could see someone like Jakob Johnson and Joe Stocstill taking reps as a fullback next year

Yeah, agreed. Not saying we want to go learning too much from them, but I did like the "superback" position name Northwestern gave to their hybrid TE/FB, Vitale (the guy they inexplicably hardly used the whole game). It's a cool name for a hybrid spot, one that it looks like we could use extensively if we continue to develop our power running game.

I believe that it was like some have said. It took him a while to learn how to use some of his playmakers. And, at times he got very conservative with a lead. But, as a whole, he called some very good games. I really didn't expect a first year oc to come in and do as well as he did. He gets a, better than expectations, from me.
