Dobbs sign at Gameday - funny or mean?

Morning Vols,

I never knew Dobbs suffered with an autoimmune disorder until this morning. As someone who's high school sweetheart suffered with bouts of alopecia I can certainly sympathize with him living with this condition. I'm also not one who gets their jollies making fun of how other people look, but unfortunatley I guess that does it for some folks. FWIW, the idiots who brought those signs are getting absolutely lit up on the TexAgs pay board too, so we're not too happy about it either.

Hoping for a competitive, injury free game today. Looking forward to enjoying college football at its finest, win or lose. Cheers!

Props to you sir. While I would never have made fun of the girl. I also would tend to be shallow when picking a girlfriend. You're a good dude!

There's a good chance at least some of this is born of ignorance. I posted something about it a couple of weeks ago, and despite being a regular here I actually didn't know it was a medical issue. When I found out, I felt badly about it. It's just not common knowledge past your fan base.

I don't know what your comment was, nor am I accusing you of doing this, but as a general rule, it is a bad idea to poke fun of someone's appearance.

Wow obviously you have never been around someone with alopecia. Auto immune disorders are horrible not hilarious, I'm going to assume and hope that you are a prepubescent teen and you should do research before making comments like that.

LOL

Sarcasm isn't your thing, is it?

Honestly, I thought it was some kind of fashion thing, or maybe he thought it helped with a sweating issue. I did not know it was medical. Sounds like I'm not alone.

I see it as no big deal. Our fans did the same until we realized it was a medical condition.

I'm more offended by the Dobbs plays like a girl sign lol. If you've watched Dobbs at all you can't say he plays anything but tough.

Jesus guys it's not a disability unless every bald person in america is disabled. He looks better that way anyway. Hopefully it pisses Dobbs off.

And you can stop with the 6th grade jokes about Butches hair too...and Trump's (no I'm not a trump supporter). leave that stuff to the kindergarteners.

Well then, ought it not stop about Coach McElwain -- I see no reason to make fun of someone's sunburn.

Josh Dobbs is a very handsome young man and has absolutely nothing to worry about from petty uglies in the peanut gallery.

UT fans could easily make signs taking shots at those Yell Leaders and I bet the PC police would make them throw them away

This type of thing has nothing to do with the football game. Why is it thought to have any bearing on how at fan base relates to the game at hand.
Bye the way, is this not the place that some years ago, while building a bonfire woodpile, there was a really bad collapse with lose of life? If it was, do people make light of it in pregame hyping ? There would be lots of things that could be said about this to supposedly get a fan base "ready to go". It would not be cool, as this personal attack toward Dobbs is not cool and has not one thing to do with the game.

You sure his eyebrows aren't just growing back? Hair returns and falls out at different times with his condition.

Absolutely 1000% positive. If they show him in interview it's conclusive that either makeup or tattooed on to look like eyebrows now. Obviously he is conscious of it. I feel bad for him especially seeing as he continues to rise above as a great person.

It's pretty disrespectful to insult someone who has a medical condition, but quite honestly Dobbs doesn't let that garbage get to him. He will be making lots of money designing aircraft, he doesn't care what some frat boy from A&M says about him.

There is nothing funny about that at all. Completely classless.

Another one says "Grow a Pair" with a photo of Dobbs with no eyebrows. There are several with forehead jokes featuring photos of Dobbs and Peyton-- "Peyton called and wants his forehead back." And one that says "mUTants go home" with a photo of Dobbs on an alien body.

My little nephew just said, "We can't do that at our school. That's bullying." Glad I don't have to explain that one.

I don't see how anyone can be offended by this. It's just a game sign and a joke.

I can tell a lot of people haven't had someone with a real disability in their lives because people with them make fun of themselves all the time, as humor been proven to be one of the best coping mechanisms time and time again. When my father was diagnosed terminal with his cancer he made more death and dark jokes than all of the people against Black Lives Matter.

We live in an age where people get offended far too easily (and it's really not the under 30 age group,) and I can all but guarantee Dobbs isn't offended by this. Don't be offended for him, as if it truly bothers you just come up with something funnier and move on. Because *****ing and complaining (especially on a message board) does absolutely nothing to further the conversation or make anything better.

Tasteless humor has been around forever. But there's a special kind of conscience-free cruelty that happens when society tries to use "political correctness" to replace an ethical system ultimately based on individual accountability before a Higher Being.

People know they can weigh the choice whether to conform to political correctness, with limited fallout if they reject it. Their only dissuasion is public shaming from people they probably don't respect anyway.

The other ethical system (call it lower-case c christian) encourages treating every individual with the same respect (golden rule) irrespectively... whether they are disabled, wealthy, ignorant, or famous. IMHO it's healthier to believe you will stand accountable before a God who's motivated by an unchanging standard and love for every person, than to face a thousand arbitrary, usually anonymous, "fairness" judges in a mini-universe of social media.

But maybe those low brow signs were politically correct--it depends on how you profile Dobbs. Political correctness protects identity groups rather than individuals. And some identity groups are politically in-correct, so there's no call for treating those people nicely or respectfully.

If Dobbs is profiled as a victim (genetic disease, racial minority, compromised in appearance, generating dollars without receiving cash renumeration) then the eyebrow jokes are politically incorrect and thus, wrong.

But if the jokes were aimed at Dobbs as a member of the predatory ruling class (male, college football star, BMOC, and potential engineer for a defense contractor/arms dealer) then those jokes are politically correct and deserved.

It's complicated, but that's why political correctness is a hallmark of sophistication. It's incomprehensible to lowly rubes like us, clinging to our guns and Bibles.

Sorry, can't find anything about the game at hand with your post. It is spot on as it relates to society. Think post is on wrong site, doesn't seem to have much direct sports connection to me. Maybe a political or social site. But Bible and gun references, for me, at the end of your post are a letdown.
