Dobb's running style

Brad Smith

Not the top end speed, but makes up for it with good vision and being pretty elusive

The SC fans were really getting frustrated last night. They were yelling, "He's running in slow motion. How can you guys not tackle him?" Dobbs didn't seem to be running really fast. He is just smooth and elusive.

Several SC fans also made the comment about what a beast Hurd is. They were also impressed with Pig's speed.

His running style is as weird as his eyebrows. At full speed he looks like he's bearly jogging. I keep waiting for him to hit another gear.

Dobbs is not a RB, but his run is effective. I hate to see the hits he takes, but its better than the hits Worley was taking in the backfield.

How many hits did you see him take? Don't recall anyone unloading on him.

Looks the exact same to me in terms of his "style". He's 20 lbs heavier and stronger though and I'm sure that's why he's running through some arm tackles.

Dobbs is a much more effective runner now than in high school. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry as a senior and had just one game w/ 100+ yards, while as a junior he averaged 3.0 ypc with a rushing high of 53 yards.

Against seven SEC opponents he's averaged 5.3 ypc.

Looks effortless but he is really moving faster than appearance. The proof is in the defense taking the wrong angles and looking out of position.

Run smarter not harder. He is deceptively elusive.

Agree with the other posters. He looks a lot like Vince Young when he takes off. I hope if also starts looking a lot like Marvin Harrison when it comes to wriggling out of hits.

He glides along effortlessly, which I think works out better for him. He isn't shaking and juking too much, trying to do everything. That long run against Bama showed me everything that I needed to see, as well as the long run against SC at the end of the half. He looks like he's running at 50%, but his acceleration leaves defenders looking like they're saying "What, how?" and guys downfield seem to have trouble pursuing him because they can't get a gauge on his true speed.

GO DOBBS GO!!!

Dobbs is a shifty runner but yall are trying way too hard if you're seeing Vince Young in his game. Vince was such a nasty runner, had very quick speed - not high top end speed, but great cuts and his vision in space was on another level. He probably had one of the sickest stiff arms of any QB Ive seen in college. Honestly I think the Swoopes kid out of Texas looks more like Vince than Dobbs does. Dobbs had 1 great game vs the worst defense in the SEC - that's not a whole lot to work with.

What about Alabama and its defense? Dobbs ran all over Alabama and those guys can run. I think you are selling him way short with the "one good game against a bad defense" talk.
