Dobbs regression, like Worley's, is due to our OL...

... extreme suckage quotient. 42 sacks for 2014. Worley played like one of the SEC's best earlier in the season, then the OL suckage took it's toll. Same thing happened with Dobbs. It's the same thing that happens with rookie QB's going to bad teams in the NFL.

They have to run for their life and the constant pressure gets into their heads. So, for those of you reverting back to your criticism of Dobbs....step off his jimmies, Jimmy. He made some mistakes of his own, but again, much of it comes from him being unsettled with the barrage of missed assignments by the OL.

If he's given time, he'll return to form, but stats don't lie. 42 sacks allowed this season. For a little perspective, in 2011, with an immobile QB like Bray and Matt Simms, we only gave up 15 sacks. Only 18 in 2012. We are close to the bottom of the barrel in all of FBS schools.

I hope the OP is right. The "regression" may be due to poor practice habits as have been discussed. I think it is more related to players like Hurd, North, and others being on the sideline and limiting the offense and empowering the commode door's defense.

It was clear the beating Worley took affected his game later in the season.

It was clear for the MO game that Dobbs got affected in that game, and I believe is why we just played laterally against Vandy.

I think it is critical that this offensive staff find a fix with these 15 practices. Otherwise, Butch is going to have to make some extremely tough decisions.

Our offense is basically a wildcat. Dobbs limitation is his arm. He is just not a good passer. He just gives us another dimension in the run game.

He was throwing dimes against USC and Kentucky when he was able to set his feet. the O Line not being able to block anyone with a pulse and WR that can't get open hurt the passing game more than his alleged bad passing.

"And yet we won. Which is all that matters. Lighten up."

:) Just messing with you my man. Have a good one.

He didn't look good because all of our new weapons are hurt. Lane didn't come out feom the 2ND quarter on due to our lack of depth. That's stupid to think about how we have no depth, that a tb can't come out for that long because we don't have anybody else. We needed Kamara in bad way yesterday. Next year we should sufficient depth where we need it.

Dobbs has become much better from last year so I have a feeling he will continue to grow as the OL does.

I agree but I dont think the OL will grow with the current line coach and weight coach. I'm hoping CBJ replaces both.
For Dobb's I like him but for those that dont we got a good QB coming in that can compete for the job. It's Dobb's job to lose.:lolabove::clapping:

Until CBJ gets 3 or 4 of his classes in we won't have the 3 deep roster we need. We're off to a good start but when nearly half of you're rotating 2 deep players are freshmen and sophomores you're going to half issues.

Could not agree more. This is the most pathetic OL ever in college football. Unreal how bad this OL is>

Due to the fact we started so many young guys. Remember Dooley did not recruit any OL one class and that has created this massive problem. We have guards trying to play tackle and freshmen starting. You would never see that at Alabama or any other SEC team except a Mason coached team (because he reminds me of Dooley). Next year our OL should be better off as long as Blair is good to go. I trust Butch. He's got us moving towards the right direction.

Dobbs had 1 fantastic game versus one of the worst defenses in the country in South Carolina. After that a lot of people kind of tricked themselves I think. Fact is, right now he's an erratic passer with an above average ability to run and escape pressure. Kind of like Mauk in regards to what sort of dynamic he brings to an offense. There is still a lot to work on with Dobbs, especially in regards to timing and ball velocity. He has a bad habit of floating the ball - making him a chancy passer.

Dobbs regression could be to coaching him to stay in the pocket longer to gain some passing consistency... in the SC game he had virtually free reign and was an unknown. Teams have caught on and are rushing to the outside to turn him to the middle as much as possible. He'll get better. Go Vols!!

Bingo... This guy wins the prize..

Dobbs is a running back playing QB. That will have to change next year or he won't last.. I think we all see now why Butch was hesitant to put him in. He handicaps the vertical passing game. Just like Worley handicapped the high school offense we run..

If you follow the trend Dobbs regression started right after our center went down for the season. Our o-line has no depth and needs lots of work. They are to young and inexperience for the SEC. Time will change this. I do see Dobbs over think things and trying to force the ball. IF he had more time this would be less of an issue.

Weight coach? :eek:hmy: You're turning on Lawson? You're ridiculous! If you had any credibility, that lost it for you. Our conditioning and strength is no issue...and hasn't been since Coach Lawson took over that program.

The youth and inexperience excuse was fine the first couple of games, but this Oline has shown no improvement whatsoever. None. Zilch. Nada.

Not having Hurd, North, Crowder, and a few others has slowed his development. But, no worries they all have plenty time to heal during the off season.

Oh boy.

So going for 300 total yards against Alabama and having great games against usc and uk get discredited as he can't throw because of one game where to online gave him no time to throw..... Ok sure that makes since. Rivalry games are always like this, people play up for their rivals and they have confidence against us Since they beat us the past two years. Just some perspective.

Teams have film on Dobbs now.. He'll have to prove he can use his arm to keep teams honest in the future. There was a reason Butch held him back and wanted to redshirt him, this is why..

No doubt about it. Dobbs covered for the OL until D's watched film and broke the code. Then they started getting to him too.

It is time for the platitudes about the OL improving "every single day" to end... and real, tangible, recognizable improvement to be seen on gameday.

Interestingly, most of the few times I've seen Jones get defensive is when being asked about the OL's poor play. He's touchy about it. He knows there's a problem and not one that he wants to deal with.
