I found this interesting breakdown of Dobbs passing from last year. Does anyone have a similar breakdown for this year?

Dobbs 2014 passing stats

Most of these throws were against the weaker part of our schedule in '14. I would assume that making longer throws likely means you have the time to let a play develop as well (Oline protection on those)??

behind the line: 95.7% completion
0-5 yards: 69%
5-10 yards 53.3%
10-15 yards 54.2%
15-20 yards 42.1%
20+ yards: 35%

I don't how this compares to other qbs but here is a link to some similar stats for qb's in '12.

QB stats '12

Not coming to any conclusions just interesting info. If anyone can turn this into something worthwhile feel free.

You mean we've actually thrown the ball longer than 20 yards??

Yes. Bubble screen with 42 yds of YAC. Remember Croom vs. Mizzou?

Lol. I bet Dobbs has less than 10 completions in his 9? Games as starter where he completed a pass that traveled 20yds vertically down the field. Dormady does it about every 3 attempts from his appearances in the spring game and live action this season. Had 2 in a row last time out.

I would like to see more of Dormady in the future for sure. He has gotten some valuable reps for sure.

WITHOUT the threat of a mid-range or long pass, defenses can pack the box with 8 or more guys. it is vey hard to block that many regardless of who u are. If Dobbs, cant do it, let the freshman play some to loosen up the box. Dobbs cant take a pounding like the Florida game every week- he is gonna get hurt.

Anyone here broken down pass by distance of the catch in '15 like the video?

But to be a little fair, The o-line isn't helping him much.

Good point, and something that many overlook when evaluating the passing game. Bottom line, and as we already know, there's difference between run blocking and pass blocking. The O-Line is young, and even though there's been improvement compared to last year, performance is still wanting.

Not to jump on the beat-up-the-staff bandwagon, but I think we need to see a little more out of Mahoney. Whether correlated with first-year buy-in issues by the players or not, there was a drop in production from the "senior" O-Line during that first year. I keep waiting to see something click on total offense. The run game has improved, significantly. At least we can start with that.

Tomorrow's game should be perfect weather for the passing game.

Being a scientist by training, my first thought was how many times did he throw to each of those zones?

Honestly when plotted, it doesn't look that bad. To me resembles an exponential decay curve (with the exception of the 10-15 yard result) which would be the expected result. (That's why short yardage passes are called, "High percentage passes...)

Video doesn't list attempts just says they favored short passes. Care to add Bray and A.Murray to the chart? Distribution #s are included on this one.

You can't be serious with this.
