Dobbs...NFL or Grad School

If Dobbs is foolish enough to declare for the draft, then he will go undrafted. He projects to the 2nd or 3rd round? :eek:lol:

GFW is an insider over on the recruiting forum that apparently works in UT football facility and drops reliable info.

He said a few weeks back when discussing all the NFL scouts at practice this season that Dobbs was getting interest from several NFL clubs.

This idea he'll be lucky to get drafted is foolhardy. Like I said he's got a better chance of going in the 1st round than being undrafted.

Funniest post I've seen a quite a while. Thanks for the laugh. :hi:

If Cut had been OC Bray never would have had a scholarship offer IMO. The Clemson QB (name escapes me) would have been our QB then..,

I don't know. IMO Ainge and Bray are similar in makeup. I know Cut wasn't here when Ainge was recruited, but he turned Aimge into a very good QB. And a lot of that was through tough love.

I think Cut would have done something similar with Bray as long as Bray was willing. And if Bray wasn't, Cut would have sent him packing, which is what I love about Cut.

Dobbs should at least analyze and speak to Darwin Walker, who was a Civil Engineering graduate from UT and played in the league for several seasons. I think Walker owned an engineering firm for some time, but it looks like he might be doing football commentary now.

Not that my view counts but I think he needs to go with aerospace over football. And I wish him the best in all that he does.

outstanding young man who will achieve more in life than trying to be a small-niche non-passing NFL quarterback. With his athleticism coming out of high school, he might have had more longevity in a position more suited to his physical strengths.

NFL is a passing quarterback league....same issues with Bridgewater.

Dobbs will be forever loved by VolNation but his strengths are not on the field.

Not on par with Tebow as a passer. He has much more polished throwing mechanics than Tebow. The knock on Russell Wilson was that he is too small, but teams took him because he is smart and a great leader. Same with Dobbs. He is a great leader, extremely smart, a dual threat, and he has great throwing mechanics arm wise. Needs to work on feet position while throwing, and he'll be good. He is a 60% passer this year, and that's where Cam Newton was his junior year at Auburn. Not comparing the 2, but comparing Dobbs to Tebow is a mistake.

Tebow had a pass efficiency rating of 171 for his career and Dobbs best year was 2014 with a 130 rating. Cam had a QBR of 182. Dobbs is behind both of those as a passer.

Quick question for VN. More than likely Dobbs would project as a 2nd or 3rd rounder for next years NFL draft 2017(possibly higher). Do you think he would enter the NFL or continue on with his graduate studies and snub the NFL? Thanks

I haven't asked him. And if I did, he probably wouldn't answer.

I personally compare Dobbs more to Russell Wilson than Cam Newton. Similar sort of slipperyness to avoid sacks and big hits. But it still doesn't change the fact that a guy who know 10x more about football and the QB position than either of us said Dobbs is college Cam Newton with more ADVANCED PASSING skills.

I'll take the opinion of a former heisman winning QB on what Dobbs is than some loser on a message board.

Do your eyes tell you he resembles Cam in any way? I don't know hat Andre was talking about unless it was on a run.

Andre Ware has forgot more about football than you or I will ever know. I'm gonna take his word to the bank. Not yours.

I guess time will only tell on this one. I just don't see it based on where he is today as a passer. As said by many on here I see his current challenges are:
1. Passing Accuracy - on long and short throws
2. Seeing the field and finding the open receiver / going through his progressions
3. Pocket presence

He has a ton of intangibles that are extremely desirable and nobody can question his running ability or leadership. But we've seen plenty of examples of QB's just like him that have really struggled to make it in the NFL. And before you jump on # 2 blaming it on the OL, there have been plenty of examples of no pressure when he misses the wide open receiver and throws to the receiver covered.

Dobbs has all the tools to get drafted, but if he can't greatly improve his consistency passing, then he's a 5th-7th round prospect at best.

However, If team 120 has the 2016 many are expecting, then someone will no doubt take a shot on him. A lot is forgiven for guys who can find a way to win.

Firstpick.com draft game has him going third or forth this year I think that's wrong but just thought I'd put that out there

Why would that be wrong? Dobbs would go much higher in the draft than anyone here thinks if he came out this year.

Good thing for us he's coming back.

I didn't mean anything bad about that I just don't think he is that good he has done great things here I just don't think he is that high a pick in the draft

I think you are taking way too much from a throw away line in a television broadcast. Dobbs likely will be the most exciting quarterback in the SEC next year.

Sooo, everyone in this thread is just gonna completely ignore the fact that Debord couldn't even get Tom Brady to have great/good stats in college? Yall look for every opportunity to hate a player or coach on the vols, I don't understand why. Andre ware(who knows more about football than pretty much anyone here) said Dobbs is more developed as a passer then Cam Newton was in this stage of his career. I've seen multiple mock drafts, having him going between 3rd and 6th RIGHT NOW. I've seen people him in the top 10 draft eligible QB's. But all yall arm chair analyst and coaches are right, Dobbs doesn't stand a chance to get drafted in the early/middle rounds, because He's awful. Even though he's gonna go down as one of the greatest mobile QB's to ever wear Orange and White.

I don't know if these folks follow the draft or are just dumb. They act like you need to be Tom Brady to get drafted.

Lots of QBs get drafted who miss an open receiver every now and then.
