Dobbs...NFL or Grad School

Quick question for VN. More than likely Dobbs would project as a 2nd or 3rd rounder for next years NFL draft 2017(possibly higher). Do you think he would enter the NFL or continue on with his graduate studies and snub the NFL? Thanks

I'd think he would grab some millions, and if he wishes to continue his studies he'd be more than able to afford it.

Not trying to knock on Dobbs, but unless he improves his accuracy, he will not be projected as a 2nd or 3rd rounder. He is great for the college game with his dual threat ability, but not so much for the NFL. Hope he proves me wrong

He's on par with Tebow, and unless he makes significant improvement then he won't have an NFL career.

Not on par with Tebow as a passer. He has much more polished throwing mechanics than Tebow. The knock on Russell Wilson was that he is too small, but teams took him because he is smart and a great leader. Same with Dobbs. He is a great leader, extremely smart, a dual threat, and he has great throwing mechanics arm wise. Needs to work on feet position while throwing, and he'll be good. He is a 60% passer this year, and that's where Cam Newton was his junior year at Auburn. Not comparing the 2, but comparing Dobbs to Tebow is a mistake.

Also lets let him go through this off-season and another year to see how much he improves. We get some quality slot receivers and have better receiver play next season, and he improves then next year will be great.

I have said it before, I think his major gets in the way of moving from just being good to great QB

Compares to Pat White from WVU IMO. He got a contract.

He has improved so much between year2 and year3. I hope he continues to develop especially behind a more polished O-Line. Seems like a bright future whatever he decides to do.

He is Denard Robinson from Mi a few years ago... He is not an NFL QB due to the lack of arm strength .. Got to be able to throw the deep outs.. As yet to prove it

Denard Robinson has A LOT weaker arm than Dobbs. Dobbs has average arm strength for a QB. Also Denard Robinson is about 3-4" shorter than Dobbs. Not a good comparison at all.

DR also ran a 4.43 while Dobbs runs a 4.9 (I think I have that right). Yeah, not a good comparison at all

I think he goes to the draft, no matter what his projection is. Even if he only latches on to a team for a year or two, he can set enough money aside to pay for grad school and get into a high-paying profession with a graduate degree and no student loan debt.

Agree. Arm strength not a weakness at all.

It's just consistency. That's fixable

I've often wondered what he is capable of if he focused his attention 100% on football

Nobody has seen that yet. It could be special

If Dobbs was timed in high school at 4.9 then it was either wrong or has since improved IMO

He looks more like a 4.7 speed type runner to me and that's a pretty big difference

Not so sure Dobb's skill set is what the NFL scouts are interested in, are you?

He is not an NFL quarterback, many college qb's with much more talent in terms of passing the ball failed in the NFL. I like Dobbs I think he is probably a great guy and plays hard but he does not perform well under pressure. Yes, he can escape the pocket but he forces way too many throws. When you combine that with his very limited accuracy, there aren't many NFL teams who are going to waste an early round pick on a qb with that many question marks. Players only get guaranteed money in the first and second rounds and he would have to make a squad through injuries and other considerations but the difference between Dobbs and the other mobile qb's listed is they were much faster and could transition into other positions. Dobbs isn't near the running qb that Tebow was in terms of his power and physical strength and Tebow isn't on an NFL squad.

He is tall, smart and has decent arm strength

plus he is mobile.

All the things you can't teach



So yes, I can see someone taking a shot on him as a project.


To me he is like a nice pitching prospect that has a bad tendency to throw wild pitches. That guy always gets drafted.

How did you watch UT this year and not notice his sharpest, most accurate game changing passes all come on 3rd down?

I bet his 3rd down accuracy rate in the second half of the season is 75%
