Dobbs highlight reel

He is an insane athlete. I heard on one of the sports talk shows yesterday that his yards after first contact were higher than any RB in the entire country, including Fornette. He is by far the best running QB in the country.

I got into an argument on twitter yesterday with an idiot SB Nation FSU homer that claimed Dobbs wouldn't even be a Top 5 QB in the ACC. If you want to call Dobbs an average passer after his first few years then that is fine, but the notion he isn't even the 5th best QB in the ACC is asinine.

He said Dobbs' is Treon Harris level bad which just shows his ignorance right there. NO ONE is Treon Harris level bad other than Treon Harris. He refused to give an factual basis for this except for one statistic saying Dobb's passer rating against ranked teams was as bad a Treon's. Which is such a dumb argument because it's a cherry picked statistic that refuses to acknowledge there is a multitude of things that Dobbs is good at. Treon didn't have a single strength.

I know this has been said a hundred times but, if he gets the deep ball down...he will be lethal. He is already elite as a runner, especially for a quarterback.

I think if he just leads his receivers a little more then this team will be lethal on offense

Excited to see howuch he's improved. Seems to be a very motivated individual. From what little bit of I've seen from his media availability he's seemed to own getting better in the passing game

wouldn't be as good as we are without him. he plays in a possession offense, that's the way it is. he's a much better passer than given credit for. if Debord doesn't let him start throwing the deep ball more, then you might as well say goodbye to Gitmo. he'll transfer because I doubt he stays in a possession offense. his great live arm won't let him...seriously......:peace2:eek:ut...:)

GO VOLS!

Each year Dobbs has gotten better as a passer i dont see why this year will be any different. GO VOLS!

Very debatable whether or not Josh was a better passer last year than the year before. Nearly all his statistical measures took a drop in 2015 from 2014.

Given that Dobbs' first full season as a starter was this past year, relative to several elite quarterbacks now in the league I for one and pretty pumped about his potential this year. Just for fun facts, here's a look at some of their completion percentages from their junior season:

Winston: 65%
Mariota 63%
Russell Wilson 58%
Vince Young 65%
Matt Stafford 61%
Cutler 61%
Dak Prescott 61%
Jared Goff 64%
Carson Wentz 63%
Josh Dobbs 59%

So yes, Dobbs is on the lower end of the totem pole in regards to completion percentage. But what does he have to complete to be "elite"? An increase of just 5% would be him in some pretty good company. Combine that with his running ability no reason he shouldn't be considered 1st-2nd round material come next April.

I'm also encouraged by that fact that knowing how hard working and committed Dobbs is in pretty much every aspect of his life...if he knows that basically his only weaknesses is accuracy, you have to almost know for certain that he has been working tirelessly to fix that.

He had over 200 more pass attempts in 2015 then he did in 2014 but yes i can see your augment.

as it pertains to what he means to the program, at this particular time in its history, i look at Josh Dobbs in much the same light i look at Andy Kelly. both are underrated for their talent at times, but both took (are taking) a transitioning TN program to a next level.

i think Dobbs and this team in general remind me a great deal of those teams in the late 80s' and very early 1990's....it was those teams that set the foundation for what the 90's and early 2000's ultimately became, and i think this group, led by Dobbs is doing the same thing. time will tell for sure, but it feels eerily similar....

if we can wind up in ATL, maybe a sugar bowl....an SEC title...who knows. but team 120 should go down in TN football history, very favorably....

He also only started being the #1 QB halfway through the season in 2014. We blew out UK in 2014 and he got 1/4 of his yards (297) against them that season and completed 75% of his passes that game. Definitely helped boost his stats considering there were only 6 games he played in.

It also helps that UK's defense is just downright terrible.

A lot of ppl knock on Dobbs because he hasn't been the greatest at throwing the football but I think what some of those ppl forget is that last year was his first season as a starting QB. What I mean...is that in his first 2season on The Hill he wasn't taking first team reps in spring and fall camp. Which goes a long ways in developing. I think now with him having another off season with first team reps and having a full season as the starter last year that we will see great strides again from Dobbs with another off season of 1st string reps to develop and building his chemistry with his WR's. I see Dobbs having a terrific senior season.

True, but look at last year's games. He had 6 games, nearly half the season, where he didn't even get to 150 yards, including 2 under 100 yards. Despite a largely horizontal passing game predicated on RB swing passes and WR screens, his completion percentage dropped 4 points and his yards per attempt dropped slightly. The poster I responded to said Josh's passing has improved each year.....I'm just saying none of that points to improvement. Some of it was due to scheme/philosophy and a poorly coached WR group. But after watching a 13 game sample last year, Josh surely had his role in it due to literally the only thing you can offer any legit criticism of Josh about..... his inconsistent accuracy.

Hopefully he can add a ton more to that highlight reel this year. We are lucky to have him and I'm glad he is behind our center instead of anyone else's
