Dobbs' Heisman Campaign Starts with TaxSlayer Bowl

Didn't Worely start and Dobbs come in after Worely hurt vs Nick Freakin Saban and the game was basically over think we were down 21 or 28 when he came in. Think the USCe game was the 1st Dobbs started and CBJ was not showing cards on Worelys injury prior to that game,,..

This year? No. Worley was announced out for the game on the Thursday before. On that Thursday, Jones also announced that both Peterman and Dobbs would play. Peterman started and played the first 2 series. Dobbs came in after the those first 2 series and took every snap from then on......and played very well.

I have never seen so many people mad about positive press for one of our players. Some have just hated Dobbs since we signed him alongside their golden boy RF. He is not perfect. He can be a contender though.

I don't understand how ANYONE could hate Josh Dobbs.,,in fact...I don't think they do.,,,I believe this discussion was in reference to he winning the Heisman next season.....and an honest discussion has occurred, I'm sure you might use a different word if given the opportunity though.,,,

After reading these post and comments following: What is the Heisman? Lets see, its meant for the best player in college football, a game changer, a leader and most of all wins games! Dobbs-has proven all of that and if we look at the big picture of everything that has transpired since Worley's injury....all I got to say is THANK YOU Dobbs for LEADING Volnation to a BOWL game! Dobbs definitely should be considered a contender next year and not looking through my Big Orange goggles, Dobbs is only going to get better and better! GBO!

While I am encouraged by winning against inferior defenses (SC, Kentucky, Vandy) and happy to be bowling again, the Heisman in 2015 is a reach. Thanks to Dobbs in those 3 wins, but too few games and his inconsistent arm to think that yet. He is a fine young man and he represents my university well, but is better suited in 2015 for the College Quiz Bowl until someone straightens out his throwing mechanics. Maybe by 2016, he can reach that level as the team improves. He's a great runner but has a lot of work to do but I can stand to improve on things myself. He's an impressive young man so I hope he can.

He has a lot of work to put in before worrying about about this and I dare say he (and everyone associated with his development) would tell you the same and shrug this notion right off.

Sorry to a downer.. but I can't remember a QB play as bad as Dobbs has played his first two years and then become a HT winner.. You either have it or not from the beginning of your career...

He has showed some decent running skills but reading defenses and passing the ball is below avg for a championship QB.

Could we make a run yes but I think 8 wins and losses to fla, ga and bama is more likely.. :) Remember cbj needs at least 4 years to get his players in before we could even think about winning... lol

Merry Xmas :peace2:

Might want to review the first year and a half of Vince Young's career in Austin...buncha experts had him relegated to receiver before Mack changed the offense and he exploded...he was never an accurate passer either...and dumb as a rock...no offense to quartz.

I doubt there is anyone who wants for his success as well as the teams next season,,,, that said the concept is VERY premature.

No, that did not happen.

You really think that Nick Saban....Nick freaking Saban..... who like everyone else paying scant attention heard Butch say, on Thursday, that Worley would not play and both Peterman and Dobbs definitely would play, didn't scheme or prepare for Dobbs.....especially since they saw him for an entire half of football last year. Id wager that he actually prepared to play vs Dobbs as they were putting together the initial gameplan on Sunday or Monday.

Come on man, you're not sold on Dobbs and you have other legitimate ammunition to fire at him. Reaching for his performance vs Bama ain't the way to go.

I live in Ala and have to hear more Ala BS than I care to hear. But yes Saban said himself they weren't prepared for Dobbs but wasn't going to change the defensive gameplan halfway through. So yea it's not like I'm pulling stuff out of nowhere. With a little resesrch or just paying attention you would have known that also. Not like it is inside info or anything.

Peterman actually started but nobody knew till gametime that Worley wasn't planning. But Saban is on record saying it even at halftime they didn't prepare for Dobbs. Honestly no Vol fan could even say they knew Dobbs would play most of the game after being redshirted that far into the season. And not taking anything away from Dobbs performance against Ala but hell they were already up 27-0 and never planned to see Dobbs. And not to mention Saban Ala's secondary has gotten burned and struggled against the passing game. Not a typical Saban Defense this yr.

He did well against Alabama. You guys never mention that.

What QB didn't do well passing against them, pass defense wasn't one of their strong suites. W.Va, S.Miss, OleMiss, Arky, Miss St, Western Carolina, Auburn and Mizzou all had over 210 yards passing, 6 of them had over 250, only teams with less passing yards than Dobbs 192 was LSU, Fla and Fla Atl. And neither of those three can throw a bit. Again not taking anything away from his play but hanging your hat on his passing against Ala is a pretty big stretch.

I know what Nick said. Just asking if you (or anybody) believes what he said. I don't.

Well Saban has always been a say what he means Coach with no BS and doesn't care what anyone thinks. But he also will give credit where it's due. I can't stand the guy but have hesrd him admit to his players not doing what they were coached to do and ripping into them on camera. But he never did that and said they weren't prepared. His ego won't let him admit to his teams struggles be on him or the Coach's. It's always if the players do as they have been coached to do then they will be successful but he didn't do that against UT. He swallowed his pride and took blame for not having his guys better prepared. So yea as bad as I hate Ala, Saban and Kiffin I believe they were caught off guard by Dobbs playing. Unfortunately having been married to a Bammer I know more about them than I ever cared to and that is one excuse I rarely hear out of him.

If Peyton Manning didn't win it, nobody from Tennessee ever will. It's not in our destiny.

Yea that still absolutely amazes me how he didn't win it. If he had put up those numbers at UT this day and age and if we were a top ten team then he wins one this day and time. It's turned into mostly a QB award with an occasional RB mixed in.

Given that Dobbs hadn't played a down all year, I'd say that coming in midway through the first quarter, already down 14-0, and pretty much matching the #1 team in the country point for point (20 to 20) for the remainder of the game a pretty good performance. 192 yards passing and 2 tds wasn't bad. Also, the fact that with Dobbs under center Tennessee ran for 181 yds (75 yds by Dobbs himself) when to that point, the #1 rushing defense in the SEC and country had only been allowing 63 yds per game was fairly impressive as well.

If you choose to poke holes in Dobbs' performance vs Bama I guess you can. I personally think it makes more sense to look at where and how our qb excelled.

Dobb's improvement from 2014 to 2015 will be????
I'm hoping for a major turnaround in passing accuracy and if this happens, the sky's the limit. Barring injury, a Heisman type season is entirely possible, however unlikely it is? Make's sense? No?

Dude I'm not poking holes in anything. The fact is the last two seasons he played well the first few games and then as he got more snaps he should have continued to improve with more snaps and reps and he got worse instead of better both yrs. It's been made very clear by his Coach's that he needs to practice better, which will lead to being more consistent and improving as a QB. But also doesn't take a genius to figure out he still struggles with all that. Now that defenses know what he does well and what he doesn't do well we have gone back to looking worse offensively than when Worley was starting. But teams know that Dobbs doesn't make the quickest decisions and struggles with accuracy they can load the box and blitz the hell out of him which is causing a lot of sacks, missing open receivers and turning the ball over. When he was playing well defenses couldn't do that and had to respect his passing and still have to worry about him taking off at any time. Well they now know not to just sit back and give him time and they come after him a lot more. So now he isn't getting the yards on the ground, taking a lot of sacks, not putting any fear into secondaries so now they can focus on our run game and not getting burned by the 10-15 swing passes a game. If he can't hit any passes and make Iowa respect him as a passer we will see the same problems as we did against Mizzou and Vandy. I'm not even a coach and I can figure out what our offense is gonna do. And it's not hard to also figure out the Coach's didn't trust Dobbs to throw much more than a bunch of swing passes and hitting a RB out of the backfield. Until he can show he can make plays with his arm and gain back trust from his Coach's we are gonna struggle on offense. I hope like hell we see the S.Car/UK Dobbs and not the Mizzou/Vandy Dobbs against Iowa. Our season next yr hinges greatly on Dobbs playing like an SEC QB and hoping against Iowa is where he takes that step.

Come on people!!!....why is reality so elusive for some? Let's see the program get back on its feet...be consistent week end and week out...win a few games we were not supposed to...before we start labeling "anybody" Heisman material. I think Dobbs has great potential...but that's putting the cart WAY before the horse.

Ah, but O'l Butch may have other ideas pertaining to the cart, he may indeed, be thinking outside the box......has the cart ever been pushed?

Saban is a say what he means no bs coach?
I guess he's still at Miami.

Ok..That makes no sense and has nothing to do with coaching a game. I would love for you to go back and find many if any games where he has taken blame for not having his guys prepared correctly for a game. If they struggle it's always the players not doing what they have taught them and not because of the Coach's. You will rarely hear me say anything good about him or Ala but damn take off the orange colored glasses this isn't hard to figure out.And I'm from the generation that hates Ala much more than UF if you can honestly say you aren't atleast a little concerned about how Dobbs has struggled then I know it's a BS lie.
