Dobbs/Dormady 2 QB System

Dormady is not Dobbs but he's damned sure not Worley. He's a lot closer to Dobbs than Worley. The kid can run.

He can avoid the rush a bit, but is not like Dobbs. He's more like Peterman or Ainge (who came to Tennessee with roughly the same 40 time). In other words, he's not like Casey Clausen, but he's no Dobbs.

We beat teams this year or stayed competitive by running the football, not passing. If our passing game were as good as y'all are claiming we would not have burned out against Oklahoma. There is a reason we don't take shots down field. When all your pass attempts are 15 yards or fewer it's easier to have a nice completion percentage.

How many passing yards did Dobbs have against Florida?

Dude Peyton threw for less than 200 yds and below 50% in his last two games against Vandy. You can cherry pick this game or that game all you want. Casey threw for 150 yds with 3 picks against Bama and got us killed one year. Dobbs had a bad game passing against Oklahoma and wasn't throwing downfield against Florida. In other games he topped 450 yds of total offense (against a top 10 UGA defense no less).

BJ might not be a General but even his chart has 1 QB.

No. Just no. .. Dormady needs to stay on the bench so he can be ready if needed. That is what a backup qb is supposed to do.

Not sure about Peterman but he's a helluva lot more mobile than EA and Worley. Check his rush yards in high school.

I'm not against putting Dormady in when it's 3rd and long and even a grandmother driving to Kroger to buy milk knows that we are going to pass the ball.

If you have a plus card, half gallons are 10 for $10.00 this week.

i can't believe this topic has made it this long.

I know we win 9 games finish on a 6 game winning streak and we are talking about running a 2 QB system when we have one proven QB and a Backup who may never even be the starter here ever. This is crazy, Welcome to Volnation!!!:)

Ainge was clocked in the 4.7 range coming out of high school. Peterman was considered to be quite mobile out of high school. Even Crompton was considered a threat to run (remember the package Fulmer ran with him a few times when Ainge was our QB?).

Not only does a 2-QB System always never work out, but I'm sorry, Dormady may have an arm, but the kid DOES NOT have pocket presence.

Dobbs earned his job, and we can't just assume that sheer arm talent will be enough. The kid was great mechanics (Usually kids who play for their dad's do), but some things such as composure, pocket presence, and clutchess you just cannot teach without experience.

Not advocating for Dobbs to split time with anyone in a 2Qb system, but there are plenty of examples that contradict the bold part of your post

Just for reference, with Dobbs' attempts, the difference between 59.6% and 66% is roughly 2 completions a game.

He clearly needs work getting The ball down the field more consistently. But, the funny thing is that Dobbs is more accurate for his career than Tee Martin, Tyler Bray, Justin Worley and Jonathan Crompton, and has the exact same completion percentage as Erik Ainge. In fact, he's within 1% of Casey Clausen and within 2% of Peyton Manning.

He needs to get better, but he's probably not as bad as we think.

In fairness, I think you have to take into account the passes they are attempting. The coaching staff knows JD's weaknesses and avoid them, for the most part, with play calling. When we do go deep, it's just as much to soften the D as the outside chance we connect.

I think a 3 QB system of Crompton, Stephens and BJ Coleman makes the most sense.

Wait....

What year is it again?

I remember Spurrier running QB's in and out after every play. That had to be TOUGH on his QB's.

although 9 wins was improvement this year with the talent we have coming back next year we have the ability to be in playoff contention.

It's obvious dobbs accuracy is questionable at best and leaves big plays and potential points off the board. Dormady clearly has better arm strength and accuracy. Not stating i think this should happen but curious to see what vn thinks. Kind of like the chris leak/tim tebow rotation that won florida a natty.

Even if opposing defenses knew about dormady they could not fully commit to the pass with hurd in the backfield, or kamara if he stays.

D4h please refrain from detailing this thread. Happy new year, vn.

V, b

bye felicia

Get a JOB Dobbs, and best of luck to you in life. You will be a VFL as far as every one is concerned, but Dormady is the real.

Based on what? Dormady has done nothing against a quality defense. Dobbs is a proven winner, DOrmady may never be the starter here.

It isn't crazy to think that Dormady will be good but he is still unproven and not on Dobbs level by any means. Dormady will have to earn the job and there are no guarntees he will ever be the starter here. Dobbs will be remembered as the QB when Tennessee was on the rise.
