I talked to Josh Dobbs, Tyler Bray and Erik Ainge this week about the experience of playing QB as a true freshman on Rocky Top, how much life changes and they also had a bunch of advice for Brian Maurer. I think y'all might enjoy it.

"Brian Maurer has no idea what beating Mississippi State will actually do for the next 30 years of his life."

“You have to realize you’re not just representing the 120 players on the team when you step on the field. You represent the entire state of Tennessee. You represent every quarterback that’s come before you, every quarterback that will come after you, and you’re representing, basically, every Volunteer fan in the world.”

“I made a lot of mistakes, not necessarily just on the field. If I could go back, I’d change them, but it’s hard to do now, of course. If I could go back and play, I’d be a lot better. Just the understanding of how the game is supposed to be played. I kind of just took the gunslinger mentality into it and left the mental part to try and learn at a later date.”

It's so funny. You can tell who said which quote in the OP. One is ego-driven, one is filled with regrets, one is Butchy. In my efforts to double-check my guesses I wound up reading the whole thing and really enjoyed it. Great firsthand accounts of memorable moments in all three of their careers.

All I could read was the Eric Ainge part about throwing three picks. I hope BM gets to read the whole article, otherwise were in trouble!

Not charging for online content killed many newspapers across the country. Ubben is doing what he should. If you don’t like it, forfeit the content. Pretty simple.

I disagree that the "not" charging of online content killed them. What killed them is that they have been focused on fooling everyone as opposed to providing a valuable product. They lack the vision to monetize on the new internet medium. When even their news articles are paid advertisement, and they don't have the creativity, vision, or inclination to provide real valuable tools to the reader, they are exposed.

For instance, they throw out free papers on your driveway, pay off the city to not get in trouble for littering, while charging your neighbor $20 a month for the ones they throw in their driveway, and claim those ghost drops to increase their advertising "reach" numbers. That garbage didn't work on the internet and they are still unable to adapt because they are so locked in to what worked in the past, they are unable to change.

And I did forfeit the article, I forfeit most if not all click-bait.

Also, gotta love what the Athletic says on their front page.

Wow. (Didn't pay, just read the part available without a credit card.) Anyone not convinced of how truly, apocalyptically bad of an offensive coordinator Randy Sanders was only need read that article. I had almost lost some of my contempt for him but it all came raging back with that read.

"Hmmm...we've run this play twice, and gotten two interceptions off it...I know! I'll try it a third time!"
